Todoroki (とどろき、) is a chome in Setagaya Ward in Tokyo, Japan. Together with the adjacent Oyamadai, it is one of the city's notable upscale residential areas. The postal code is 158-0082[1].
Additionally, Todoroki is a neighborhood in Kanagawa Prefecture, Kawasaki City, Nakahara Ward, whose origin derives from the same historical Todoroki. Modern administrative reorganizations split it into Tokyo and Kanagawa sides. This article focuses on Todoroki in Setagaya Ward. For Todoroki on the Kawasaki side, see Todoroki (Kawasaki City).
Overview
[edit]Todoroki consists of blocks numbered 1-chome to 8-Chome.
- To the north: BeyondMeguro Street, bordering Uenoge Street (8-chome).
- To the south: Near the Kanpachi Avenue.
- To the west: Adjacent to Nakamachi and Nogawa.
- To the east: Borders Jiyugaoka 3-chome in Meguro Ward (6-chome).
The area spans the northern section of the Tokyu Oimachi Line from Todoroki Station to Jiyugaoka Station, extending along Meguro Street from Todoroki Fudoson to near Sanno University. Its total area is approximately 1.728 square kilometers.
Before implementing the residential address system, areas south of Kanpachi Avenue (now Tamatsutsumi District) were part of Tamagawa Todoroki Town in Setagaya Ward.
Across the Tama River, the present-day Todoroki in Nakahara Ward, Kawasaki City, was once part of Todokori Village. As of January 2020, no direct public transport, bridge, or ferry links the two Todoroki areas. However, plans for a new bridge, tentatively named "Todoroki Ohashi," are progressing[2].
