Thomas Frederick Robinson (born March 1990) is a British Labour Party politician serving as a councillor on Manchester City Council, representing the Clayton and Openshaw ward. He sits on the council's Executive as the Executive Member for Healthy Manchester and Adult Social Care, where he is responsible for adult social services, public health, and health integration across the city. Robinson was first elected in May 2021 and re-elected in May 2022 for a term ending in 2026.[1].
Early Life and Career
[edit]Robinson was born and raised in Manchester. He studied politics at the University of Sheffield, followed by postgraduate study at Queen Mary University of London. He began his career in the charity sector, working for the Royal British Legion and Comic Relief. In 2013, he returned to Manchester to work in the office of then-Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd, who also served as interim Mayor of Greater Manchester. He later worked in Parliament as a parliamentary assistant to Jonathan Reynolds MP, and served as Executive Business Manager to the Leader of Tameside Council prior to entering elected office.
Political Career
[edit]In May 2021, Robinson was elected as one of the Labour councillors for the newly created Clayton and Openshaw ward[2]. He was re-elected in May 2022. In 2022, he was appointed to the City Council’s Executive as the Executive Member for Healthy Manchester and Adult Social Care. In this role, he leads on policies related to adult social care, mental health, early intervention, and tackling health inequalities. He is also the Chair of the Manchester Health and Wellbeing Board, which coordinates strategy between the council and health service providers[3]
Robinson also serves on several council committees, including the Art Galleries Committee, Personnel Committee, and the Employee Appeals Committee. As a ward councillor, he has been an advocate for better housing, safer streets, accessible green spaces, and improved public transport in Clayton and Openshaw[1].
City of London Civic Affiliations
[edit]Outside his work in Manchester, Robinson is affiliated with the civic traditions of the City of London. He is a member of the Guild of Young Freemen and served as the Guild’s Beadle from 2014 to 2023. He is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Woolmen[4]. He is also a member of the Fabian Society, GMB the Union, Royal British Legion and a trustee of the The Edward Mayes Trust.
