[edit]Tha Day (real name Dajour McKinley) is an American recording artist, filmmaker, and songwriter from Portland, Oregon. Known for blending elements of hip hop, grunge, and R&B, he has performed at the Northwest Folklife Festival, appeared in local media coverage, and was featured in the Fleet DJ’s "State of Washington Top 10 Songs" chart.[1]
Early life and education
[edit]Dajour McKinley grew up in Portland, Oregon. As a youth, he became involved with MetroEast Community Media, learning film and production skills while exploring music as a creative outlet.[2] His work with MetroEast earned recognition through the Alliance for Community Media’s Hometown Media Awards in 2018.[3]
Career

[edit]McKinley began releasing music under the name "Tha Day" in the late 2010s, publishing tracks to platforms such as SoundCloud. His early material fused traditional hip hop with alternative influences.
Festival performances
[edit]In 2024, Tha Day performed at the 54th annual Northwest Folklife Festival in Seattle, Washington. Billed under the "Grunge Hip Hop" genre, he played on the Vera Project stage as part of the festival’s theme Ikigai: A Life Worth Living*.[4]
Recognition
[edit]Tha Day’s track “4 Love Makers” was listed at number nine on the Fleet DJ’s "State of Washington Top 10 Songs" chart in 2025, appearing alongside mainstream artists including Kendrick Lamar, Bruno Mars, and Sexyy Red.[1]
He has also been mentioned in independent music coverage such as KNnit, highlighting his involvement with collaborations in the regional hip hop scene.[5]
