Teona Bekauri (Georgian: თეონა ბექაური, born January 17, 1972, Tbilisi) is a Georgian artist‑architect, film production designer, designer, and computer graphics specialist.
Biography
[edit]Teona was born in Tbilisi. Between 1985 and 1989, she studied at an experimental art studio at the Tbilisi House of Artists, led by Gia Gugushvili. From 1985 to 2002, she participated in numerous exhibitions and continues painting to this day. Her artistic style is expressive, eclectic, and timeless, a language also evident in her film and interior design projects.
She graduated from Tbilisi Public School No. 51 and studied urban planning at the Faculty of Architecture of the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts (1990–1996).
From 1996 to 2002, she lectured at Tbilisi State University|Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, teaching fundamentals of composition and painting for television and cinema. In 1998–1999, she worked as an artist‑designer at the advertising studio Imperiali.
From 1995 to 2000, she was a production designer at the Georgian Telefilm Studio, contributing to films such as Van Gogh’s Ear (winner at Montreux Festival), Ephemera, Alilo, Isakadze, Vivaldi and the Sea, Parable, and Night Dreams (an Emmy‑nominated film directed by Sandro Vakhtangov).
Between 2002 and 2003, she led the design team at the studio Audiencia, working on music videos, films, and TV shows. From 2004 to 2018, she worked at Neostudio as a production designer and 2D/3D artist, producing content for MagtiCom and collaborating with prominent Georgian directors.
In 2014, she created graphic packaging for MagtiSat and was the artist for the film The Future Artist Jibson Khundadze (dir. Giorgi Tsikarishvili). In 2016, she designed visuals for the documentary A Moment, Torture, and Transience about Eduard Shevardnadze.
Her architectural and design work includes the Bazaleti Lake tourist complex (2004–2005), the Tbilisi – City of Light program, and various custom furniture and landscape projects. From 2005 to 2009, she worked at advertising agency Sarke, producing award‑winning government campaigns and music videos.
Between 2007 and 2009, she was production designer for the series Third Generation and 1005. From 2009 to 2012, she was chief artist at TV company Imedi. Later, she collaborated with Re‑Animator and other studios for Georgian broadcasters.
From 2015 onward, she created branding and visuals for multiple TV companies (Iberia, GPB documentaries, etc.). Since 2017, she has contributed to projects for the Parliament of Georgia, including centennial celebrations, gifts for honored guests, and reconstruction of the Parliament building.
From 2021 to 2023, she designed and compiled the two‑volume album Pitareti. She also worked on architectural and interior design projects, such as the eco‑friendly hotel Raymond Palace (2018–2021),[1][2][3] a 108‑apartment aparthotel in Bakuriani (2022–2024), Batumi View apartments (2022–2023), a tourist complex in Bukistsikhe (2023–2024), and the Kids Arena entertainment center in Tbilisi (2024–2025).
Other work
[edit]Since 1994, Bekauri has designed numerous logos, identities, brochures, posters, and banners. In 2014, she co‑founded the Sakdrisi Movement for Cultural Heritage. In 2015, she ran for Parliament in Tbilisi’s Mtatsminda District with the Way of Georgia party. Since 2019, she has been co‑founder of Parents for the Future Generation, supporting competitive swimming in Georgia.
