Stun Shiva (born as V. Siva Kumar), is an Indian action choreographer and actor who works predominately in Tamil films apart from a few Telugu, Hindi and Kannada films.[5][6][7]
Early and personal life
[edit]Stun Shiva was born in 1970 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His uncle Natarajan was a stuntman, specialized in performing motorcycle stunts in movies. Since childhood he was interested in sports and passionate about motorcycles that he became a motorcycle mechanic and learnt to perform stunts with motorcycle.[8]
Stun Shiva met an Indian-Vietnamese martial artist Lany Hau, the daughter of his martial arts master and married her in 1997. The couple has 2 sons.[9][10]
Career
[edit]Stuntman
[edit]Initially Stun Shiva started his career as a motorcycle mechanic, due to his interest in the vehicle. His workshop was located near a saloon where all the stuntmen, assistant stunt coordinators and stunt coordinators used to come and he got attracted towards cinema especially stunts following his acquaintance with them. In 1989, he joined the South Indian Cine & TV Stunt Directors, Stunt Artists Union with the help of his uncle Natarajan. He had worked as a stuntman to stunt coordinators such as Rambo Rajkumar, FEFSI Vijayan, Vikram Dharma, V. Raja, Judo. K. K. Rathnam, Judo. K. K. Ramu, Rocky Rajesh and Kanal Kannan.
Assistant Stunt Coordinator
[edit]Later Stun Shiva was promoted as an assistant stunt coordinator to his mentor Rambo Rajkumar & former colleague Kanal Kannan. K. S. Ravikumar who got acquainted with Stun Shiva when the latter had worked as a stuntman as well as assistant stunt coordinator in the former's movies, had given him the prefix "Stun" and changed his name to Stun Shiva.[11] He became well noted for his work in performing many highly risky stunts and assisting in coordinating stunts in movies, at the same time he had also faced severe injuries as well as near fatal major accidents. Especially in movies such as Thozhar Pandian in which he had toppled an auto three wheeler while riding it in a chase sequence, Pudhiya Mannargal in which he had jumped from a bus in an action block and Mr. Romeo in which he had performed a motorcycle stunt as a stunt double for Prabhu Deva by jumping with a motorcycle while riding it.
Stunt Coordinator
[edit]Stun Shiva decided to become a stunt coordinator and he was given an opportunity by Vijay who got acquainted with him when the latter had worked as a stuntman as well as assistant stunt coordinator in the former's movies such as Deva, Vishnu & Chandralekha. In 1997, Stun Shiva made his debut as a stunt coordinator in Love Today.[12][13]
Stun Shiva had done both commercially appealing as well as experimental live realistic fight scenes notably in movies such as Kadhalukku Mariyadhai, Kannukkul Nilavu, Sethu, Nandha, Pithamagan & Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu.[14][15][16][17] In 2000, he had received the Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Stunt Coordinator for his work in Kannukkul Nilavu.[18]
