[edit]Prince was interested in computers in the 1980s and 1990s, using the idea of combining themes of technology and love with "Something in the Water (Does Not Compute)" and later songs, including "Electric Intercourse", "Computer Blue", "Emale", and "My Computer".[4]

In 2001, American rapper Chino XL used the song's chorus lyrics as the chorus for his song "Water" off his album I Told You So.[5]
In 2008, the band Sold Out covered the song for the tribute album Shockadelica: 50th Anniversary Tribute to the Artist Known as Prince.[6]
