Sofia Garbati (born 10 December 2002), professionally known as Sofia Ninova, is an italian creative director, VFX artist and animator. She is known for directing and animating lyric videos and visual campaigns. She has worked with Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, Elton John, Georgio Armani and HUGO BOSS.[1][2]
Biography
[edit]Ninova was born in Ascoli Piceno and grew up in Comunanza.[3] She began directing short films using her Barbie dolls when she was seven years old.[1] Ninova attended Osvaldo Licini Art High School in Ascoli Piceno.[4] In 2021 Ninova directed, produced and animated the official lyric video for Olivia Rodrigo’s single “Drivers License”, originally conceived as a fan-made project.[5] Today she is known for combining the cinematic narrative and digital aesthetics to translate the syntax of music into imagery, drawing inspiration from philosophy and psychology. She has referenced the work of directors such as Damien Chazelle and Paolo Sorrentino as two of her influences. Ninova works between music, fashion and film projects while based in Italy.[3]

[edit]Ninova’s work has been covered by Italian and international media including Billboard Italia, where she talks about the rising influence and meaning of lyric videos for modern music consumption.[6] Furthermore she has been covered by Corriere Adriatico, Resto del Carlino, Cronache Picene, L’Ancora and Francesco Di Silvestre Magazine.[1][7][8][9] In 2022 Ninova was invited to the London premiere of Warner Bros.’ Fantastic Beasts as an influencer, following her viral success on the app Tiktok.[10]
