Draft:Shno Clashes

In the early hours of August 11, 2018, a severe conflict erupted between the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Peshmerga forces of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) at the high altitudes of the Kelashin Mountain, near the Shno border (Oshnavieh) in Iran. The exchange of fire, which was claimed by the Commander office of the Peshmerga Forces, reportedly lasted for five hours.[1]

According to a report from the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, an informed source stated that the clash resulted in at least 12 deaths and more than 10 injuries, with the wounded being transferred to health centers in Urmia. The report further noted that Hengaw's own sources indicated eight fatalities in the clash, and that a civilian from Shno was also wounded and subsequently imprisoned.[2]

In a statement issued by the IRGC's Base Hamzeh, the military body acknowledged the skirmish and claimed to have lost 10 of their forces in the fighting. However, the IRGC's statement did not mention any of their own casualties beyond this figure. The conflicting reports on the number of casualties highlight the difficulty in verifying information from the region independently.[3]
