Sebeő Talán (from 2004 Far Severő Sapirico; Budapest 1958. september.15 –) Hungarian philosopher, writer, aesthete, artist, memories improver, humorologist

His course of life

[edit]

He obtained three degrees (biology, philosophy, and aesthetics) from nine departments of four different universities. In 1982, he founded the Swapseries International Philosophicality Artforthschool (Cseresorozat Nemzetközi Filozofikussági Művészetelőreiskola). As a philochaffeur, he worked out the concept of Csere (translated as Swap/ Exchange), which builds through three main principles, unideology, co-thinking and essence sight, and is conveyed in active gatherings. From 1983 until 1988 he, under the name of Csere, designed and published unique philosophical literary art fanzines, in which he applied special graphic and library solutions, and engaged in a large scale spectrum of philosophy, literature and visual arts.

From 1984 onwards, he organised yearly art festivals (Quickttwwoo/ Gyorskettő, Emerge likers/ Kibontakozáskedvelők, Shortly/ Röviden, Invisible art/ Láthatatlan művészet, Titanic festivals/ Titanic fesztiválok) and was an active participant of numerous thoughts swaps, exchanges and performances of the Swapseries I. Ph. A . In cooperation with a group, called Hejettes Szomlyazók (Substitute Thirsters), he established the cellar club called Platón barlangja (Cave of Plato), in one of the air raid shelters of Budapest in the Kavics Street. It was an alternative centrum, where they regularly held discourses, thought-exchanges, appearances, and art exhibitions, concerts, debates about art-conception and philosophy. The group’s activity was made a year later impossible, not regardless of that the Ministry of Home Affairs observed Sebeő’s life and work secretly until the collapse of the communist regime.

Since 1988 (until 1997), he is one of the organizers of the yearly held events, called Titanic Thoughts Swaps Of Titanic Philosophicality Artforthschool (Titanic Filozofikussági Művészetelőreiskola Gondolatcseresorozata ) . As symbols they selected the Titanic and the sable toothed tiger (Smilodon californicus) about which they thought they had been too perfect to the Being, therefore the Being  had perished them. He joined a communication movement in 1992, which was previously set up by Wolfram Helmle, and was named “The 32s” (“32-esek”), because Sebeő announced his literature-related advertisements in the 32th readers’ column in the advert newspaper called “Hirdetés”( Advertisement). These advertisements received many answers, about which Sebeő said: “This movement is not only for sociology-historian students, but also for time-travellers. In 1992, at the invitation of Tamás St. Auby, he organized a major exhibition of his drawings at the Bartók 32 Gallery Budapest, entitled New folk art ( Új népművészet) 2050-2192, and in the same year he also appeared as a playwright with his work (I think, the Mill) "Gondolám, a malom", which Tandori Dezső described as the summarizing Hungarian drama since Imre Madách. Since 1994, he has been running the First Memory Development Training (patent number at the Patent Office Hungary:156915). In 1996 he ran a weekly radio programme, called Radio Swap-of-Thoughts (Gondolatcsere Radio). In 2002, he founded the SCI-FILO-HUMOR Department, which was not affiliated to any university, but in which ELTE philosophers of science (László Ropolyi and Péter Szegedi) played an important part.

In parallel with the Swapseries I.Ph.A, he also played a decisive role in the creation of other anti-ideological and supranational formations, such as the Rare Polish Cars Hungary (Ritka Lengyel Autók Klubja), a culturally oriented "anti-car" club) and the Hungarian Scandinavian Culture Society (Skandinávia Társaság). Both were intertwined with Sebeő's communicative practice (his poetic-scientific-absurdist proclamations and his extensive correspondence), which, in the spirit of boundary destruction, was aimed at founding and nurturing fictional identities on the one hand, and cultivating alternative systems of thoughts on the other.

His "advertising" activity pre-dates the internet forums, their "prehistoric" version, but under the name far severö sapirico (and other nicknames) he became, an active shaper of many online discussions, including the törzsasztal.hu later in the net’s time. He is the creator and inspirer of the following "index" forums: The 32ers (the Harminckettesek), Poland culture hegemon (Lengyelország kultúrhegemón), Unitra –Polish love (Unitra – lengyel szerelem), which leads into the world of hi-fi and technology, which are also not strange to him. Other topics under his name: Words ending –lo (Szavak -ló végződéssel), Naming public areas: about what and whom to name? (Közterület-elnevezések: miről kéne elnevezni?), Hungaro-Hungarian dictionary IV. (Magyar-magyar magyarázó IV), Truths, verities and justices (IgazságOK), Off-topik, etc. He wrote a grammar textbook by what one can learn not 1 but 2 languages simultaneously, and has got 64 patents at the Patent Office Hungary ( patent number: M 22 03172).

His Work

[edit]

His works were mostly influenced by the philosophies of Plato, Friedrich Nietzsche and Martin Heidegger, on whose ideological foundations he developed the theory of the unideological exchange of ideas, which he characterised, among other things, by the following qualities and processes: essentialism, process sensitive sight, emerge-likers. These concepts have also been central to his creative, editorial, publishing and organisational work, inspired by the Greek philosophy as well as the punk. His work in art theory was developed along the theory and practice of the Swap (Csere), and the  Csere (as a philosophy) can be seen as a theory of art and communication based on hermeneutics and phenomenology. The title of his thesis was: An introduction to the differences of the music conceptions of Wagner and Nietzsche.

His early works were primarily concerned with philosophical and epistemological issues, following the works of Nietzsche, Husserl and Heidegger, but he also produced literary texts in parallel. He has been writing poetry and short stories , and his important early work of fiction is The Attingmola Haunting, which takes us into the world of time travel and time paradoxes, following the Strugatski Brothers “A billion years before the end of the world”. The theme of time, the dimensions of time, the theorisation and interpretation of time is one of the main motifs of his thoughts as well as the duplification of 1 man. Closely intertwined with this thread of time, however, is the thread of space, that is, how you can exist duplificated in the space-time available for him. Thus, the theory of art and communication that emerges along the lines of Csere and the boundary destruction are in line with philosophical roots and the  theory of Being, too.

Science-fiction literature (besides Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, most notably Stanisław Lem and Isaac Asimov) has been an important inspiration for his later works. The topos of science and fantasy also permeate his most important dramatic work, the eloquent „I think, the Mill”("Gondolám, a malom"). This work is characterised by an extremely broad cultural-historical horizon, since its genre is "rhapsodic-choral". Its dialogues draw not only on Greek tragedies but also on early modern picaresque novels, while the war between telepathic, super-intellectual space-wind riders and sentimental human beings is told in a framework story that is based on the problem of representation (narration and representation), all these in the style triangle of Shakespeare-the Mahabharata-Dante.

A similar complexity characterises the textbook of his theatre play called „The consciousness of somebothing at the edge of the forest” (“Azekinetudat az erdő szélén”)(subtitle: The Realm of unpersonal / A személytelenség birodalma), which also deals not only with epistemological but also with ontological issues. Citing poems, reading up newspaper adverts and excerpts of articles the two dark green face 1 eye 3 mouths actors dressed up in diner jacket connect the living trees which are outside the hunters’ forestal log house with the wooden sculptures inside the house, therefore they create a unit of living & not-living by boundary destruction, whereafter fire comes up. The performance was presented with powerful musical accompaniment and movement art with the avant-garde scenery set of Sugár János.

In his last major trilogy work, Yestem I-III.(in Polish: I Am. . . ), he uses science fiction narratives to explore fundamental problems of existence and epistemology to explore the epistemological and ontological questions that characterise his oeuvre. In the face of the problematic horizon of the new electronic world, since the characters in this particular spy novel move on several levels, niveaus (Angels/ devils - humans - computer files). The connection and interaction of these planes may be the subject of this epistemological "script novel", whose particular characters are Dostoevsky's "soulpersons". Yestem is an attempt to create a new kind of drama, similar to the „I think, the Mill”. As in the early main work, the "Gondolám", the different planes and dimensions of the Being and consciousness are pushed into each other, and as such both works can be seen as essential manifestations of the Csere (Swap) and Cseresorozat (Swapseries), as they unite and confront different ideas and thought structures of philosophy, literature and the natural sciences.
