Saint Bhagwan Baba (born: 29 July, 1896; died: 18 January, 1965) was a saint of the Warkari Sampradaya in Maharashtra. His full name was Abaji Tubaji Sanap.
Rashtrasant Bhagwan Baba enlightened rural Maharashtra through his spiritual discourses (kirtans) on educational, social, moral, and cultural issues. He harmonized the Bhakti (devotion), Karma (action), and Jnana (knowledge) paths, which was evident in his kirtans. He gained immense popularity as a kirtankar (preacher). Through his discourses, he addressed issues like caste discrimination, religious divisions, ignorance, superstitions, and harmful traditions.
The former seat of the Sanap family
[edit]He was born into the Vanjari caste of Maharashtra. His mother's name was Kautikabai and his father's name was Tubajirao Sanap. Tubajirao Sanap was given the title of Patil during the Yadav period, so he used to add the surname Patil after his surname.
Birth and childhood
[edit]Bhagwan Baba was born at sunrise on Monday, Shravan Krishna Panchami, AD 1818 (July 29, 1896 AD) at Supe Ghat Savargaon in Patoda taluka of Beed district. The boy was named 'Aba' or 'Abaji' during his childhood. Hence, Bhagwan Baba's full name is Abaji Tubaji Sanap. He was the fifth child of Kautikabai and Tubajirao
There was a school in the village up to the fourth standard. Then, on the advice of Guruji, he was sent to his maternal uncle's village Loni, Taluka Shirur, District Beed for further education. Since there were no more educational facilities, Abaji returned to the village. He went to the rural areas to tend cattle as per the custom. Abaji loved farming and looking after cattle. Due to the religious atmosphere at home, Abaji naturally developed a love for spiritual knowledge and Vitthal Nama. Abaji used to do farming at home and worship Vitthal. He started going to Pandharpur Dindis. He first went to Dindis with the renowned Warkari Gite Baba from Dighul. Since it was believed in his family and the surrounding community that 'if one has a darshan of Vitthal of Pandharpur, one's life is prosperous', he went to Pandharpur with Gite Baba Dighulkar. For this, he left home at the age of 5-6 and went to Pandharpur on foot. After reaching Pandharpur at the end of the first journey, he decided to dedicate his entire life to the feet of Vitthal. He considered Geeta Baba as his spiritual guru. After returning to his village from the journey to Pandharpur, Abaji did not return home. He went and sat in the Hanuman temple in the village. As soon as his family heard this news, they came to the temple. Then the little Abaji insisted on wearing Tulsi garland. Seeing the love of the little Abaji for God, the family accepted his request and then Abaji returned home.
Abaji's ancestors were worshippers of Narayangadh since childhood. The Mahant of Narayangadh was his hereditary guru. At that time, Manik Baba was the ruler of Narayangadh. Abaji's parents regularly came to Narayangadh to have darshan of Manik Baba. Once, Abaji's parents took him to Narayangadh on the day of Vijayadashami. Abaji asked Manik Baba to give him Gurupadesh. Manik Baba said that he could not give Gurupadesh at such a young age, but Abaji's mind was not satisfied. Since Abaji passed the discipleship test conducted by Manik Baba, Manik Baba granted Abaji's grace and gave him Gurupadesh. Later, Manik Baba named Abaji 'Bhagwan'.
It is said that after going to Pandharpur, he met Manik Baba of Narayangadh and went to Narayangadh for communal education. Manik Baba was his Guru. After that, Bhagwan Baba went to Alandi for further education with H.B.P. Shri Bankat Swami. After that, he came back to Narayangadh. At that time, Bhagwan Baba was 21 years old. After that, Bhagwan Baba became the Mahant of Narayangadh and organized many religious programs there like Wari and Narli Saptah.

Education
[edit]Once, when Shri Bankat Swami came to Narayangadh, Manik Baba handed over Bhagwan Baba to Bankat Swami. Bankat Swami took Bhagwan Baba to the Warkari Sanstha in Alandi. Bankat Swami's thoughts influenced him. There he accepted the Sanyasi religion.
Notable Work on Narayangadh
[edit]After Bhagwan Baba returned to Narayangadh from Alandi, devotees from Panchkroshi started coming to meet him. Around the same time, when news of Bankatswami's kirtan spread, he was impressed and decided to enlighten the society. Bhagwan Baba started performing kirtan at the insistence of the devotees.
In 1918, he started a foot procession from Narayangadh to Pandharpur . Since then, Narayangadh is called 'Dhakti Pandhari'. In 1927, he started a procession up to Paithan on the occasion of Nath Shashti. Later, he started a seven-day Akhand Harinam Sapta. Bhajans , kirtans , sermons , storytelling, Harinam chanting and gatha parayana were held during the week. The first Akhand Harinam Sapta was held in 1934 at Pakhaldoh. 17 Harinam Sapta were held while Bhagwan Baba was at Narayangadh.
As soon as Bhagwan Baba heard the news that Manik Baba of Narayangadh, Bhagwan Baba's guru, was ill, he immediately came to Narayangadh. Manik Baba raised his hand and called Bhagwan Baba closer. He said, 'Bhagwan, now all the responsibility of the fort will be on you'. Jyeshtha Shu. On 13 Shake 1859, (AD 1937), Manik Baba laid down his body.
After being tempted by greed, Bhagwan Baba left Narayangadh. Bajirao Patil of Kharwandi took Bhagwan Baba to Dhaumya Gad. Bhagwan Baba went to the surrounding villages and converted the people to the Warkari sect.
Restoration of Dhaumyagad
[edit]The work of building the fort began, Baba himself was an expert in architecture. What is special is that the entire construction of the fort is made of stone and without the use of wood. Stone blocks were brought from the Rajubai mountain in Navgan Rajuri for the Owari . All the stone blocks were brought by bullock cart and they were given the shape of square slits. The devotees of the surrounding area helped a lot in the work of building the fort. Women gave their own ornaments, decorations, and ornaments and funds were available for the construction. Every devotee was contributing to this work. The devotees brought their own bread and vegetables from their homes and completed the construction of the fort day and night. Gradually, the fort of devotion, Shrikshetra Bhagwangad, came to be known as a very vast and magnificent structure. This is a supernatural invention of excellent architecture. It was through his concept that the real beginning of the restoration of Dhaumyagad was laid and the fort of devotion was established. After that, we could see the true transformation of Dhaumyagad. He highlighted the plight of the roads and emphasized on road development. By uniting the devotees, the work of building a road from Dhaumyagad to the village of Kharwandi at the foot was completed.
Later in 1958, Swami Sahajanand Saraswati , H.B.P. Mamasaheb Dandekar and Balasaheb Bharde installed the idol of Vitthal in the temple. The fort was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Mumbai Province Yashwantrao Chavan on 1 May 1958. Speaking on this occasion, Chief Minister Yashwantrao Chavan said, "For the protection of religion, Bhagwan Baba has united the devotees and built a fortress of devotion on the basis of scripture. From today, Dhaumyagad should be known as Bhagwangad ." Since then, Dhaumyagad was named Bhagwangad . At the same time, Bhagwan Vidyalaya took shape from Baba's concept. To facilitate school education, the cornerstone of Bhagwan Vidyalaya has been laid on the fort. Children from wadis, padyas, and tandys are here for education.
Palkhi Importace
[edit]Even though Bhagwan Baba spent a large part of his work at Narayangad and Bhagwangad , Bhagwan Baba's wanderings for the sake of kirtan took place in the villages of western Maharashtra and Marathwada. Bhagwan Baba started the tradition of carrying palanquins to Pandharpur, Alandi and Paithanwari. Bhagwan Baba used to go to Pandharpur every year on the occasion of Ashadhiwari along with his devotees . This palanquin takes Bhagwan Baba's padukas to Pandharpur and travels through Bharjawadi, Kharwandi, Khokarmoha, Karanjavan, Patoda, Bhum, Kurduwadi and Paranda. This place has the honor of carrying Sant Eknath Maharaj's palanquin as a service to the tradition of his Guru at Padukasthan. When Bhagwan Baba was at Bhagwangad , all the equipment including elephants, horses and barns were used for the palanquin. Many Warkaris of Marathwada set out for the Pandharpur Wari with this palanquin, known as the Palkhi of Bhagwangad . Every year, according to the Warkari tradition, they participate in the wari by chanting the names of Hari Vitthal, Shri Gyandev Tukaram, Pandharinath Maharaj ki Jai, Shantibrahm Shri Eknath Maharaj ki Jai, Bhagwan Baba ki Jai, carrying a saffron flag on their shoulders. Bhagwan Baba was proud of his tradition. He used to say, 'I am the talkari of Shri Eknath Maharaj's Paithankar Phad'. At Nath Sansthan Paithan, the palanquin and Nath Shashthi Dindi are held at Bhagwangad.
At Sant Shri Eknath Maharaj Sansthan, Paithan , the Nath Shashthi Dindi is celebrated at Bhagwangad . On the occasion of Nath Shashthi, the palanquin carrying the saffron flag, remembering the name of 'Bhanudas Eknath', goes to the Eknath temple at Shrikshetra Paithan. After taking a holy bath in the Godavari river, which is located in the southern Ganges, the Warkari saint takes darshan of Shri Eknath . The influx of devotees continues for the Eknath Wari in the palanquin. The palanquin of Bhagwangad is crowded for darshan and on this occasion the palanquin is overflowing with devotees.
Personality
[edit]Bhagwan Baba's attire was like that of the common people of that time. His lifestyle was simple and his thinking was high. Shri Sant Bhagwan Baba wore a plain white dhoti, a white saree, and a white turban. Sometimes he wore a coat that reached his knees. His appearance was characterized by a broad, magnificent forehead, a garland of tulsi flowers on his forehead, and a garland of tulsi flowers around his neck. He looked majestic due to his thick moustache, magnificent body, tall stature, radiant complexion, and glorious complexion. He had a stick in his hand and slippers or boots on his feet. He was a man of discipline and a good judge of people.
Life's Journey
[edit]The situation in Maharashtra in the 18th century was very dire. The situation in the region near Marathwada was very bad. After the fall of the Maratha Empire, the Nizam's rule was established in this region. In the latter half of this decade, the Nizam's dominance increased. Along with that, due to the Nizam's invasion, the festivals of religion and gods were stopped. The society was being crushed by their inhuman injustice, suffering and oppression. Women, children, nannies, gods, religion, culture were not safe. The empire of religion had sunk. The society had forgotten to follow religion. Religion was being distorted. The society, trapped in lamentations, rituals and strictness, was falling victim. In such a situation of ignorance, darkness, superstition, eating meat, and conversion, the society was crumbling. The society was in a state of inferiority, poverty, suffering and humiliation. At such a time, to end the chaos that prevailed during the period of political instability, to overcome the religious crisis, to stop the ongoing exploitation of the society, to improve the society that was ruined by superstitions, for social welfare, to preserve emotional unity and to show the direction to the society, to move from the darkness of unrighteousness to spiritual light, to bring out the society that was clinging to customs and traditions, and to create a sense of light in the dark life, Bhagwan Baba incarnated as promised in the Gita. This gave impetus to social transformation, inspired the revival of Bhagwat Dharma. He played a valuable role in modern social enlightenment. Baba, who worked for the welfare of the people of Maharashtra, never compromised with his faith and values. Baba played the role of a great charioteer as a shield of devotion and protection for the people. He always guided in the role of an ideal hero, social reformer, and social balance. Along with this, he united the Vanjari community and other Bahujan communities, which were divided into various branches in the mountains and valleys
Work of Bhaktimargprasara:
[edit]Bhagwan Baba initiated the yajna of spreading the path of devotion around 1918 AD. He kept the embers of spreading the path of devotion burning throughout his life. Bhagwan Baba was the main pillar of support for millions of people in Maharashtra and the savior of the Warkari sect. Bhagwan Baba's social, educational and religious ideas were that of a great and active social reformer. He freed countless devotees from addictions, bad behavior, arrogance and strife. Cow protection, food donation, Vedic rituals, name chanting, bhajansaptah and pilgrimage in this way created awareness among the devotees about religion and devotion. Bhagwan Baba constantly tried to establish equality, brotherhood, unity, awareness and the sweetness of Hari Nama in the society. His kirtan was full of love for Vitthal , devotion and emotional strength. His kirtan used to touch the hearts of the common people. Devotees were enthralled by his kirtan. Through kirtan, he spread the Bhagavat Dharma and the Warkari sect. Bhagwan Baba worked for social transformation while staying in the Warkari sect. To educate the misguided society, Bhagwan Baba started the annual Narali Harinam Saptah in the villages. Bhagwan Baba was an ideal devotee who traveled through the villages, contacted all levels and established heart-to-heart communication in their language. He showed the devotees the path of self-improvement. He put the devotees on the right path by explaining the true meaning of the words of religion. He spread the message of devotion to the name of God everywhere through kirtan . After the fall of the Maratha Empire, Baba incarnated like a storm and continued the legacy of Bhagavat Dharma. He worked to instill self-respect and the spirit of religious movement in the minds of the people of Maharashtra. His contribution to the Warkari sect had given his career a different dimension and he had created a hold of his own over the common people. Convinced that the Nizam's attack on Bhagwat Dharma was the cause, Bhagwan Baba started targeting it through Kirtans and from that, the religious movement was born. History had to take note of Baba's unique personality traits of establishing a strong hold on Maharashtra through his Kirtans and his own personality alone
- The doctrine of non-violence
Sacrificing live animals is not a religion but a great unrighteousness. He stopped the custom of killing goats before the gods in Marathwada and taught the society the doctrine of non-violence. He stopped animal slaughter in many villages including Majalgaon , Pathardi , Dharur , Kej , Shegaon . He asked the person who offered him a garland, "Will you eat meat?" and only after receiving a negative answer, he offered him a garland. Bhagwan Baba opposed the practice of eating meat in the Vanjari community. Even today, mothers and sisters in the Vanjari community follow him with devotion. He instilled the spirit of banning cow slaughter and broke the customs and traditions of that time. He dedicated his life to public service to explain the true devotion to God.
- The doctrine of secularism
All people were equal before Bhagwan Baba. Bhagwan Baba was a great advocate and symbol of humanity. He taught religious tolerance and secularism. Baba also advocated these roles throughout his life. He worked to keep the flame of humanity burning in his heart throughout his life. He worked day and night for the common people without expecting any fruits to improve the social system. Bhagwan Baba's name became so popular that people of various religions and sects felt that he was their saint. His devotees included people of many castes, religions and sects. His devotee-family of people of different religions kept growing. He brought about reconciliation between two communities in the village of Chinchala, where there was a social rift. In one village, an idol of a deity was to be installed, but the organizers opposed it because there was a Muslim mason there. Bhagwan Baba rejected it and allowed that Muslim mason to do the work. He made every effort to eliminate casteism, high and low class, casteism, religious and sectarianism. He became the originator of religious enlightenment. If we think deeply about the concepts of honesty, righteousness, respect, love for one another, compassion, forgiveness, peace, selflessness, and devotion that exist in society, Bhagwan Baba imparted this teaching of secularism.
- Social awareness work
Service to man is service to God, and Bhagwan Baba, who clearly states that God is realized in all, tried to impress upon the minds of the common people through Kirtan that God is not in stones but in people. When true philosophy came before the Bahujan community, they understood the true God due to ignorance, superstition, and illiteracy. He tried to completely stop many bad customs in the Bahujan community through Kirtan and gave the society a simple religion. He taught that true devotion and worship of God. Bhagwan Baba gave new life to the extremely uneducated, poor and weak community. He showed a new ray of hope to the poor and weak community. He devoted his life to eliminating wrong, outdated customs, superstitions, naive beliefs, undesirable customs, unjust traditions, ignorance, vices, defects, gossip, gossip, embers, and caste and caste system in the society. He freed many from sorrow, troubles, and diseases and put them on the right path. Bhagwan Baba was a benefactor to those who wanted to do educational development and agricultural development. He was a public teacher and public leader who strived to make every day of his life meaningful. He was the leader of public welfare through his kirtan as well as through his work. Bhagwan Baba had taken a vow to instill noble values in the common people. He accepted the vow of public welfare. Even in adverse circumstances, he fulfilled the vow of public welfare without being distracted, facing the onslaught of criticism and slander. He convinced the society that everyone should work together for public welfare. He enlightened the society about how the elements of society could be uplifted. He was a walking and talking university that gave existence to the common people without identity and made people. He became an architect of social change. His contribution to the movement of social enlightenment was significant. He preserved the legacy of progressive thoughts and aggressive attitude.
- Educational outreach work
Giving knowledge is a thousand times better than any other charity. By offering this charity to the people, it helps in the overall development of the society. Therefore, human life would have become directionless. The level of education in the then society was very low. Keeping this policy in mind, Baba started the work of spreading education. Bhagwan Baba went around the villages and spread education in the society. He was an educational maharishi who cared about the public interest so that the society should become enlightened through the spread of education. Bhagwan Baba built numerous schools, hostels, etc. in various places to remove the common man from ignorance and arranged them properly. He opened schools so that the society should learn to improve the society. He launched a school campaign so that the society would become literate. The milk of the Vidya Vaghini should be given to the children of hardworking workers. With this noble intention, the cornerstone of Bhagwan Vidyalaya has been laid on the fort to provide school education. Children from the villages, padas, and tandyas are here for education. The hostel in Aurangabad was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Vasantrao Naik . He also established Bhagwan Homeopathy College in Aurangabad.
He sent many girls to school. The girls studied and made a good living, as we can see from the incident of Dagdabai. This Dagdabai wrote songs of praise, devotional songs and abhanga about her. Bhagwan Baba also told her to take Wari to Pandharpur with the Warkaris, dressed in her Vanjari attire. He was proud of his Warkaris tradition. Bhagwan Baba had said, 'I am proud that there are such Warkaris in my Dindi'. That sentence and that thought were valuable in terms of social transformation and social convergence. In 1974, the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Vasantrao Naik , honored this Dagdabai with an award, which was inspired by Bhagwan Baba. The woman met Indira Gandhi and requested that she provide water to each Tandya, and two Hapsas were installed on each Tandya.
Bhagwan Baba's teachings
[edit]Bhagwan Baba's kirtans, performed with unfailing sincerity, were powerful enough to stir the society from the bottom up and thus give the right direction to the society. The equation that kirtan means Bhagwan Baba and Bhagwan Baba means kirtan had become common in these decades. People used to say with pride, 'kirtan means Bhagwan Baba'. They describe him as a kirtan singer who reaches the heart . Bhagwan Baba was a pure-hearted, honest, courageous, transparent, determined, far-sighted, eloquent, sharp-tongued, with a grip on the minds of the people, a strong thought of Bhagwat religion and identity, and a great orator who gave poignant commentary on inconsistencies. Feelings of love, affection, tenderness, tolerance, compassion, self-sacrifice, dedication, tolerance, sweetness, fearlessness, and eloquence were strongly reflected in Bhagwan Baba's kirtans. He sang Kirtans in a style of language that was philosophical, simple, logical, virtuous, mature, open-minded, thoughtful, eloquent, rich in vocabulary, neat in arrangement, heartfelt in style, linear expression of thoughts, and lavish in use of words. His Kirtans seemed to be filled with emotional power. His Kirtans touched the hearts of common people. Devotees were overwhelmed by his Kirtans. He was emotionally connected with everyone. He used to create public awareness by engaging people easily in his Kirtans. He sang Kirtans in all areas. For almost four decades, he ruled the hearts of the entire society through Kirtans. Due to the sincerity of his personality, his Kirtans attracted crowds. Bhagwan Baba conducted the first Akhand Harinam Saptaha in 1934 AD at Pakhaldoh. Lakhs of people thronged this Akhand Harinam Saptaha. Since this week, the math here between Bhagwan Baba and the huge crowd of people for the kirtan has not slipped. Bhagwan Baba was a unique institution with such extraordinary popularity. He also used a lot of saintly abhangas in his kirtan.
Bhagwan Baba always preached simple and easy teachings in his kirtan. Follow good deeds, truthfulness, charity, justice, love and duty, taking out loans and ignoring the world and going to a pilgrimage site to meet God is the biggest mistake. Wear a tulsi garland around your neck, meditate on God, increase your spirituality, give your children a good education, do not steal, be hungry but do not take out loans, do not fall prey to addictions, do not become helpless, do not kill animals, do not commit violence, do not believe in caste discrimination and untouchability. He was a social savior and a Karma Yogi who firmly told the people that public service is service to God, so man should treat the poor, downtrodden, poor, needy people like humans and show mercy to dumb animals, etc. He has done a great job of spreading this message to every household. His philosophy forced every human being to live like humans. His thinking brought about a great change in society. They created a new generation.
Throughout his life, Saint Bhagwan Baba Maharaj taught Maharashtra the teachings of equality, unity, brotherhood, and above all, peace.
Annual Narali Harinam Week
[edit]Bhagwan Baba started the annual Narli Harinam Saptah in the village of Pakhaldoh in 1934. After that, a series of these Saptahs started every year, one village at a time. 17 Saptahs were held until Bhagwan Baba was at Narayangad. After the construction of Bhagwangad , the first Narli Akhand Harinam Saptah was held at Nathapur in 1951, while the last Saptah was held at Shingori in 1964. A national level Akhand Harinam Saptah was held at Bhagwangad from April 18 to April 25, 2008, on the occasion of Amrit Mahotsav. Since the Narli Saptah started by Bhagwan Baba was completing 75 years in 2008, more than 75 thousand devotees sat for Dnyaneshwari Parayana on that day. During the Saptah, H. B. P. Ramrao Maharaj Dhok's Ramayana, Kakda Aarti, Gatha, Bhajan , Kirtan , Pravachan , Chakri Pravachan, Bharud, Ratri Jagar were organized. In the last row, devotees were given funeral pyres and milk.

Allegations against Bhagwan Baba
[edit]While Bhagwan Baba was at Narayangadh, his fame spread far and wide. Due to this fame, he was harassed by the evil-minded people of the society. An assassination attempt was made by sending assassins to kill him. Bhagwan Baba also had to fall victim to the anger of the evil-minded people of the society. Due to this, some accusations were also made against him.
The main allegation was that 'Bhagwan Baba works as a spy for the British government, helps the Nizam, creates problems in the freedom struggle.' This allegation was made by Bhagwan Baba's opponents to Krantisinh Nana Patil , who had come to Beed district at that time . Nana Patil had established a 'Prati Sarkar' and was famous among the farmers as 'Patri Sarkar'. In order to bring the British officers, Razakars to their senses or to act as their spy, Nana would catch and beat them terribly with a long leather whip (called Sundari or Bharmappa). At the same time, he would make them lie down, tie their feet near the ankles and beat them severely with a stick. (Farmers tie oxen in this way and drive iron plates into their toenails. This method is called patri.) After learning about the allegations against Bhagwan Baba, Krantisinh Nana Patil decided to punish Bhagwan Baba severely and went to Bhagwan Baba at Narayangad. There, a discussion took place between Bhagwan Baba and Krantisinh Nana Patil . Nana saw the sincerity, honesty and truthfulness in Bhagwan Baba's eyes. Nana admitted that he had received wrong information about Bhagwan Baba and took Bhagwan Baba's leave and left.
Inspired by Bhagwan Baba, many villages like Therla, Vadzari, Belsur, Chinchpur, Pimpalner, Vanjarwadi, Karanjavan, Khokarmoh and others had contributed to the Hyderabad Liberation War. After this plot failed, Vighnasantoshi tried to cast doubt on Bhagwan Baba's character.
Samadhi Sthal
[edit]For many years, while Baba was wandering around with his kirtan, he closely observed and studied the society and when he saw the devastating picture of the society, he enlightened the society through kirtan. He tried to stop many bad practices and customs in the society. Baba showed the path from darkness to light. In the beginning of 1965, Bhagwan Baba's health was deteriorating. For many days, his health was going up and down, his health deteriorated further and due to his poor health, Bhagwan Baba was admitted to Ruby Hall Clinic in Pune district for medicine. When Bhagwan Baba was sick with heart disease, Dr. K. B. Grant and his team from Ruby Hall Clinic Hospital arrived to treat him . Respecting his request, Natha Misal used to recite Dnyaneshwari. There, on Monday, January 18, 1965, at one o'clock in the night, he passed away at the age of 69, entering Samadhi. Chanting three times, 'Pundalik Varada Hari Vitthal, Shri Gyandev Tukaram, Pandharinath Maharaj ki Jai, Jagadguru Tukaram Maharaj ki Jai, Shantibrahm Shri Eknath Maharaj ki Jai', he merged his soul at the feet of Pandurang and laid down his body. The food of millions rushed towards infinity. It felt like an earthquake on that land. In the decade of 1918, touching the hearts of the entire society, the religious movement that spread not only in Maharashtra but also across the country for almost four decades came to a standstill. A void was created in the Bhagwat religion that could never be filled. The loss of the great Kirtankar personality of Maharashtra spread grief. Going beyond the arrest, the fluttering Jaripatka jumped from the pillar towards infinity. Bhagwan Baba was an era in the work of spreading Bhagwat religion and that era came to an end. An era called Bhagwan Baba ended. An era ended. A storm calmed down. The storm dissipated. The sun of Bhagavat Dharma, which had been awaited for centuries, has come to an end. The support of the Warkari sect has gone. The banyan tree of Bhagavat Dharma has fallen. A chapter in the Warkari sect of Maharashtra has come to an end. The skillful organizer who created strength from nothing has been lost. A lion who worked for the common man has been lost. The tunes emanating from the kirtan had merged with the feet of Pandurang. For a long time of forty-five years or even more, the Bhagavangad in Maharashtra where he sang kirtans fell silent. The people had lost their 'God' on the occasion of Baba. His style, language, personality, and arrows will not be repeated. The sun of thought that gave the idea of intense supernatural Bhagavat devotion has set. The sun darkened more than ever as it went down.
Respecting his last request, his body was brought from Pune to Bhagwangad . His next rites could not be performed without appointing a successor, so Bhim Singh Maharaj , as Bhagwan Baba's favorite disciple , was requested to sit on Bhagwan Baba's throne. But Bhim Singh Maharaj refused to sit on the throne saying, 'I am not worthy to sit on Bhagwan Baba's throne'. Therefore, Bhagwan Baba's best friend Babulal Maharaj Padlikar went to H.B.P. Mamasaheb Dandekar and brought the order. After seeing the order, Bhim Singh Maharaj agreed to sit on the throne and the sacred Tulsi garland from Bhagwan Baba's neck was removed and placed around Bhim Singh Maharaj's neck. Bhim Singh Maharaj performed the last rites of his body.
The congregation that listened to Bhagwan Baba's kirtans was saddened by the passing of their beloved emperor Baba. To bid Bhagwan Baba a final farewell and seek his blessings, the bhajani congregation from every village had come with dindya, taal, pakhwaj, mridangam, and talmani. Devotees had been coming to Bhagwangad since morning to have the last darshan of their beloved Baba . Waiting for the body, they sat in every corner of Bhagwangad in the heat of the day . Even the police found it difficult to control the crowd due to the presence of the ocean of people. Although there was a delay in bringing Baba's body to Bhagwangad due to the surge of people, the devotees who had been waiting for Baba's last darshan since morning did not move. Baba's body was brought to Bhagwangad after crossing an ocean of devotees . A large crowd was present at his samadhi. Towards evening, the body was placed on the platform from a chariot. After the body was placed on the platform, the chants of Bhagwan Baba, come back, come back, Bhagwan Baba, come back...the only Baba. Bhagwan Baba... Bhagwan Baba began to be chanted and the area was filled with these chants. As soon as the body was placed on the platform, devotees started to line up to have darshan. While having darshan, all the devotees were overcome with emotion and the devotees were literally crying uncontrollably. Some were folding their hands and some were crying deeply with their eyes closed. As soon as the devotees started chanting, the Bhagwangad also shook. The devotees' eyes filled with tears as they bid farewell to their beloved Baba. The devotees were joining the funeral procession that was leaving. As the funeral procession moved forward, the devotees were becoming more emotional. After the funeral began, many devotees were overcome with grief and many devotees could not hold back their tears. The crowd seemed to be drowning in an ocean of grief. Tears of sorrow flowed everywhere. The dam of tears of lakhs of devotees had also burst. After the funeral, a large number of devotees were present at night and were shouting slogans of joy. Later, the mortal remains of beloved Baba were brought here near the Vitthal temple. There, a marble stone-built tomb of Shri Sant Bhagwan Baba was built and became a place of worship for devotees.
Bhagwan Baba's Samadhi at Shrikshetra Bhagwangad is still guiding the devotees as per the words of the Gita. Even after Samadhi, in addition to taking care of the devotees, millions of devotees are receiving his grace, love, blessings, darshan and guidance because he merged with Pandurang Charan. Bhagwan Baba is still working with the devotees who devote themselves with undivided devotion, always supporting them and guiding them and will continue to do so till eternity. Bhagwan Baba's legacy of devotion is seen being preserved by hundreds of devotees even today and there is no doubt that it will continue to increase. Even today, devotees bow down at the feet of Bhagwan Baba upon seeing his Samadhi. It is said that devotees who are united in devotion can hear the sound of his Vitthal Nama near Baba's Samadhi. The peace of mind one gets after visiting Bhagwangad has made it a place of worship for millions of devotees.
