Draft:Robert Steven Connett

Robert Steven Connett (born 1951) is an American painter known for his detailed depictions of undersea life, microcosmic worlds, and surreal natural environments.[1][2] His work blends scientific precision with surrealist imagination, often focusing on marine organisms, insects, and fantastical ecosystems.[3]

Early life and background

[edit]

Connett was born in San Francisco, California. Before pursuing art full-time, he worked for more than 20 years in the insurance industry. In the mid-1990s, he left that career to devote himself to painting, developing a style that merges natural history with surrealism.[4][5]

Career

[edit]

Connett’s paintings have been exhibited internationally in both solo and group shows, including exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, London, Paris, Melbourne, and Amsterdam.[6] His work is characterized by vibrant colors and meticulous detail, often portraying imaginary underwater worlds populated by fish, crustaceans, and microscopic life.[7]

A 2014 Hi-Fructose feature documented his studio process and noted the surreal, “microcosmic” qualities of his paintings.[8] In interviews, Connett has cited both scientific illustration and the natural world as major inspirations.[9][10]
