Robello Samuel is an Indian-American petroleum engineer, author, and academic specializing in drilling engineering and well construction. He has worked in industry, primarily with Halliburton, and has contributed to research on drilling optimization and well integrity.[1][2] Samuel has published technical books and articles and is named as inventor on a number of U.S. patents in drilling technology. He also holds adjunct teaching positions in Petroleum Engineering.

Education

[edit]

Samuel earned a Bachelor of Engineering in mechanical engineering from Madurai Kamaraj University, a Master of Engineering from College of Engineering, Guindy (presently Anna University, Chennai), and an M.S. and Ph.D. in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa.[3]

Career

[edit]

Samuel has worked as a chief technical advisor at Halliburton, focusing on drilling engineering and the development of technologies for well construction.[4] In addition to his industry work, he has served as an adjunct professor of petroleum engineering at the University of Houston [5] and the University of Southern California.[6] From 2017 to 2022, Samuel served as a regular columnist for *Journal of Petroleum Technology (JPT)*, writing articles on drilling engineering and energy transition issues.[7]

Honors and recognition

[edit]

Samuel has been recognized with awards from professional societies, including:

  • SPE Distinguished Member (2016).[8]
  • SPE Gulf Coast Section Drilling Engineering Award (2013).[9]
  • SPE Distinguished Lecturer — For 2013–2014 and 2023–2024.[10][11]
  • SPE International Drilling Engineering Award(2016).[12]
  • SPE A Peer Apart Award.[13]
  • SPE Honorary Membership(2021). [14]

In addition to technical awards, Samuel was profiled by World Oil magazine in 2016 among “Innovative Thinkers” in drilling and energy technology.[15]

In July 2020, Robello Samuel was included by DEW Journal in its issue theme “Technology” as one of its “Inspiring Personalities”.[16]

His career contributions were also highlighted in the University of Tulsa Alumni Magazine and in a retrospective on the Tulsa University Drilling Research Projects published by the Journal of Petroleum Technology.[17][18]
