Reem Saadeh (Arabic: ريم سعادة ; born January 10, 1958) is a Jordanian film and television actress who is also well known for providing Arabic voice dubbing to many anime series.

Personal life

[edit]

Saadeh was born in Fuheis, Jordan, under the name Jacqueline Boutros Issa Hattar (جاكلين بطرس عيسى حتر).[1] Under this name she holds a master's degree in psychology with her master's thesis on the use of therapeutic drama with children. Her 2009 PhD thesis from Amman Arab University was on the use of creative psychological drama with juvenile delinquents.[2]

Acting career

[edit]

Using the stage name Reem Saadeh, she started acting in 1979, taking parts in many TV drama series and local theater productions. She has a recurring role in both seasons of the Netflix Jordanian teen drama AlRawabi School for Girls, as the strict vice-principal Miss Abeer.[3][4][5][6] She has also been featured in the series The Forgotten Joy, Darb Alshahama, Nimr Bin Adwan, Oaks Hill, The Unaccepted Reality, Laura H., Tenth Circle, Al Mishraf and Ukhti wa Khelfatiha.[7][8] Saadeh has also played roles in short films including "Is It Still Me?", "Where Have You Been",[9][10][11] and the award winner "Ode to a Child".[12]

Saadeh began doing voice work for anime roles in series produced by Al-Sharq Al-Adnaa Studios and Al-Markaz Al-Arabi Studios, two dubbing companies in Jordan. She has voiced roles in such series as Chibi Maruko-chan,[13] Adventures of the Little Koala, The Adventures of the Little Prince, Akakichi no Eleven, Babar, The Fruitties, Hello! Lady Lynn, Katry, The Cow Girl, A Little Princess Sarah, Sherlock Hound, and Voltron: Defender of the Universe.[14]

In 2024, through a workshop sponsored by the Arab Theatrical Authority and the Ajad Training Center, Saadeh presented specialized curriculum on using the techniques of drama therapy. She led a program that combined creativity with the psychological benefits of using theater skills in the classroom to work with people with disabilities.[15][16]

At the 39th annual Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, Saadeh was named 2025 Festival Honouree in recognition of her "rich contributions to theatre, television, and voice acting".[17]
