Draft:Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip

The reconstruction of the Gaza Strip is expected to occur in the third phase of the three-phase Israel–Hamas war ceasefire proposal, an agreement that is set to take effect on 19 January 2025.

Planning

Context

[edit]

On October 7, 2023, Hamas led an assault on Israel, beginning a war. According to Bloomberg News, seventy percent of housing in the Gaza Strip has been damaged and Israeli air strikes have left 42 million tonnes of debris.[1]

Estimates

[edit]

A UN Trade and Development report released in October 2024 estimated that reconstructing the Gaza Strip could take 350 years if the blockade of the Gaza Strip persists.[2]
