Origins and history

[edit]

Post Sex Nachos formed in 2018[1] or 2019[2] at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri.[2][3][4] Sammy Elfanbaum and Chase Mueller, who had already known each other through performing in an a cappella group, wrote a song entitled "Vows" and asked others in a group chat if they would want to perform the song.[2] Hunter Pendleton stated that he would play the drums for the song.[2] The band later recruited guitarist Mitch Broddon and keyboardist Kevin Jerez.[2] Jerez was recruited through a post that the band made on Facebook.[2] The band states that they cannot tell others about the origin of its name.[2][5] Mueller states that the origin of the band's name involves "a priest, a thriving Mexican restaurant chain, and more lawsuits than we can count."[5] Their musical inspirations include the bands MGMT, the Rolling Stones, and Vulfpeck.[2]

The band released their first, self-titled album in 2020.[2] Their second album, Grandpa Slinks, was released in 2021.[2] Their third album, Your Second Favorite Boy Band, was released in 2022.[1][2] The band later moved to Nashville, Tennessee.[2][4]

Their fourth album, Prima/Vera, was released in February[1] 2024.[2][6] The band performed on the fourth day of the 2024 iteration of the Lollapalooza music festival in Chicago.[7] A trailer containing the band's equipment and merchandise was stolen after a September 2024 performance at the Cotillion Ballroom in Wichita, Kansas.[8] The band started a fundraiser on the platform GoFundMe in order to raise money towards the cost of the stolen trailer and items, which reached US$28,300 in donations by September 7.[8] The Wichita Police Department later recovered the trailer, with the exception of US$1,300 in cash and a Yamaha MX-49 keyboard.[9] The band refunded all donors to the fundraiser.[2]

The band plans to release a fifth album in the future.[4]
