Per’La Specialty Roasters is an American specialty coffee roaster based in Miami, Florida. Founded in 2015 by Chris Nolte and Paul Massard, both alumni of the University of Miami, the company is known for its roast-to-order model and partnerships with cafés, restaurants, hotels, and retailers in the United States and abroad.[1]

History

[edit]

Per’La Specialty Roasters was established in 2015 in Coral Gables, Florida, by Chris Nolte and Paul Massard. The founders, both alumni of the University of Miami, sought to introduce a fresh approach to specialty coffee by roasting to order, ensuring beans were delivered at peak freshness rather than from pre-roasted inventory.[1]

In September 2021, Per’La expanded internationally by opening a roastery in Newbury, England, to serve the European market.[2]

Operations

[edit]

The company supplies freshly roasted coffee to cafés, restaurants, hotels, offices, and retail outlets, while also operating a direct-to-consumer e-commerce platform. Its wholesale partnerships include luxury hotels, corporate offices, and boutique cafés.[3]

Per’La also develops private-label programs and seasonal offerings, and provides training and equipment support for wholesale clients.

Products

[edit]

Per’La sources Arabica beans from Central and South America, Africa, and Asia. Its portfolio includes single-origin microlots, limited seasonal blends, and seasonal coffees released throughout the year.[1]

Recognition

[edit]

Per’La Specialty Roasters has received recognition from both regional and industry media, as well as awards within the coffee sector.

In 2018, Per’La Specialty Roasters won a Good Food Award, a recognition given by the Good Food Foundation and the Coffee Quality Institute.[4]

In 2021, Coral Gables Magazine featured the company, highlighting its roasting philosophy and growth in Miami.[1] That same year, Daily Coffee News reported on Per’La’s international expansion with the opening of a UK roastery.[2]

In 2022, Per’La was named a finalist for the Good Food Awards with its Ethiopia Bombe coffee, joining a select group of U.S. roasters recognized for quality and sustainability.[5]

In 2024, the University of Miami published a profile of the founders as part of its alumni success stories.[3]
