Early life and education
[edit]Dingzheng Chen (Chinese: 陳鼎正; 2 December 1930 – 11 September 2025), also known as Peng-jen Chen (陳鵬仁), was a Taiwanese scholar and government official from Shanshang Township, Tainan County.[1] An expert in Sino–Japanese relations, he earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree in political science at Meiji University, followed by another MA at Seton Hall University in the United States, and later received a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in international relations from the University of Tokyo.
Academic career
[edit]Chen published extensively on Japanese history and culture. His scholarship received several academic recognitions and research grants, including a 2004 award from the Japan–Taiwan Exchange Association for his study of Sino–Japanese diplomatic negotiations between 1931 and 1937.[2] He taught at Soochow University, Chinese Culture University, Tunghai University, Takushoku University, and Peking University.[3] His research also covered Japanese politics and society, Japanese literature, and Japanese cultural history.
Government service and leadership
[edit]Chen served on the staff of the Tokyo office of the Taiwan–Japan Relations Association (臺灣日本關係協會). He later chaired the Party History Committee of the Kuomintang Central Committee, served as Vice Chair of the Zhongzheng Cultural and Educational Foundation, and was the Chair of the Mi Jian Foundation.
