Overstappen.nl is a Dutch comparison website based in Amsterdam.[1] It is part of Risk Groep B.V., an Utrecht-based insurance technology and brokerage firm.[2]
History
[edit]Overstappen was founded through the merger of two separate comparison websites. In 2009, Paul Montagne and Jelle Feenstra founded the energy comparison website EasySwitch.nl in Amsterdam.[3] During the same period, Michiel Alkemade developed Overstappen.nl, a platform for comparing health insurance plans.[4] In April 2014, EasySwitch.nl acquired Overstappen.nl, and Alkemade joined the management team of the merged entity. The unified company later adopted Overstappen.nl B.V. as its primary name and expanded its comparison services to include automobile insurance and telecommunications.[5]
In January 2016, Overstappen received the Thuiswinkel Waarborg ecommerce certification.[6]
In 2017, Overstappen introduced a chatbot named "Lot" to answer common customer inquiries.[7][1]
By 2019, Overstappen was part of Risk Groep B.V., an Utrecht-based InsurTech service provider. The acquisition resulted in the integration of Overstappen.nl into Risk Groep-owned financial comparison sites, grouped under an entity called Kizi.[8]
In 2018, Frederik van der Veen was appointed CEO of Overstappen.nl, succeeding Joris Evendik. Van der Veen had previously held senior roles at Groupon Netherlands and Albelli.[9]
In late 2024, Overstappen acquired Zeker.com, a consumer review website for insurers, and Uitvaartverzekeringwijzer.net, a comparison website for funeral insurance policies, from Kompas Publishing.[10]
Platform
[edit]Overstappen operates a comparison platform that aggregates offerings from Dutch providers in the energy, insurance, and telecommunications sectors.[1][7] Users can personalize comparisons based on factors such as energy consumption, postal code, age, desired coverage levels, and internet speed.[8]
