OLPRO is a British outdoor leisure equipment company founded in 2011 and based in Worcestershire, England.[1] The company designs and manufactures camping equipment, and is known for its brightly coloured tents and campervan awnings.

The company is a recipient of the Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade.[2] In 2023, it also became the first camping equipment brand in the United Kingdom to achieve B Corporation certification.[3]

History

[edit]

The company was founded in 2011 by Daniel and Lisa Walton near the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire. Co-founder Daniel Walton had previously spent twelve years as a director at other outdoor brands before establishing OLPRO.[1] The brand was established with the goal of producing camping equipment with distinctive designs and an emphasis on durability and environmental impact.[3]

In 2021, the company celebrated its 10th anniversary. The same year, OLPRO launched a design collaboration with art and design students from the University of Worcester. The project involved students creating new, exclusive designs for the company's tents and campervan awnings, with the winning designs being put into production.[4]

Sustainability and Innovation

[edit]

OLPRO's product development and business model are heavily focused on sustainability. In May 2023, the company underwent a rigorous assessment to become a certified B Corporation, meeting standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.[3]

The company has introduced several sustainability initiatives, including:

OLTECH REPRO: A tent and awning canvas developed by the company which is manufactured from recycled plastic bottles to reduce the use of virgin polyester.[5]

Product Longevity: To promote a circular economy, OLPRO offers a lifetime warranty on the canvas of its core tent and awning products, provides spare parts for repairs, and operates a resale scheme for "Pre-Loved" (second-hand) items.[1]

Waste Repurposing: The company partners with the Sheffield-based organisation Retribe, donating end-of-life canvas that cannot be repaired or resold. The material is then repurposed into new outdoor accessory products.[3]

Awards and Recognition

[edit]

OLPRO has received several industry and business awards.

In 2021, the company was awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise for International Trade, recognising its growth in overseas sales.[2] The award was formally presented to the company by the Lord Lieutenant of Worcestershire.[6]

In 2022, OLPRO won "Exporter of the Year" at the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.[7]
