Odej Kao is a German computer scientist known for his work in distributed operating systems, cloud computing, and big data analytics. He is a professor of computer science at the Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin), where he leads the Distributed and Operating Systems research group.[2]

Education and Academic Background

[edit]

Kao studied computer science at TU Clausthal, where he earned a master’s degree in computer science in 1995. He completed his doctoral studies in 1997 and received his habilitation in 2002.[3]

Academic and Research Career

[edit]

In 2002, he joined the University of Paderborn as an associate professor and director of the Paderborn Center for Parallel Computing. In 2006, he transitioned to TU Berlin, focusing his research on cloud computing, resource management, quality of service, anomaly detection, and big data analytics.[3] Kao is now the chairman of the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF), an interdisciplinary initiative addressing aspects of digitalization. He also serves as the chief information officer (CIO) of TU Berlin and is a principal investigator in the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD).[4]
