Personal life
[edit]Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France the youngest son of Count Antoine Léon Charles Colonna Walewski (1904-1990) and his Second Wife Solange Bernard de Meurin. His grandfather was André Walewski a French businessman and industrialist who was involved in the Touax barge towing group, where he served as director and president, as well the co-founder of Taxis G7. Nicolas Walewski's great-great grandfather was Count Alexandre Colonna Walewski, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France and natural son of Emperor Napoleon I and Countess Marie Walewska.[1]
Nicolas first attended the École Polytechnique in Paris before earning a master’s degree from the École Nationale de la Statistique et de l'Administration Économique (ENSAE).[2]
Through his older half-brother, Alexandre Colonna Walewski, he is the uncle of Raphaël Walewski, the Current CEO of Touax, a transportation and logistics company that is currently headed by members of the Walewski family.[3]
Since 2004, he has served as a board trustee and Vice-president of the Foundation Napoléon, and in 2005, he was appointed treasurer. [4] The foundation continues to support historical research, preservation efforts, and cultural initiatives related to the Napoleonic era. [5] He resides in London Uk.
Career
[edit]He began his career at Crédit Lyonnais in 1993, later working as a portfolio manager and analyst in Frankfurt am Main. In 1998, Walewski joined Banque Syz, where he served as a fund manager responsible for European equity portfolios with €1.2 billion of assets under management from 1999 to 2005, outperforming the STOXX 600 with an annual return of 7.3%. In July 2005, he founded Alken Asset Management, where he oversees multiple funds, including the Alken European Opportunities Fund, Alken Absolute Return Europe, Alken Small Cap Europe, and Alken Capital One Fund.[6]
Since 2013, Walewski has been listed among the 500 richest French people by the French business magazine Challenges, ranking 443rd in 2019. He is also recognized as one of the 1,000 richest people currently residing in the UK, according to The Sunday Times' annual Rich List.[7]
Nicolas Walewski's financial holding company CDE has held a majority stake in Heckler & Koch since July 2020.[8]
