Nicholas Riccio is a business man specializing in real estate.[1] He is married to Karoline Leavitt, the current White House press secretary.

Early life and education

Riccio was born in 1965.[2] He is the son of Anthony and Marilyn Riccio.[3] He grew up in a family of five children from Hudson, New Hampshire. His parents divorced when he was a young child.[4] He had a turbulent childhood plagued by poverty. He graduated from Alvirne High School in Hudson, New Hampshire in 1983. By age 18, he was living on the streets and showering at friends' homes.[5]

For college, he stayed in-state and attended a public school, Plymouth State University. Riccio experienced homelessness in his youth,[6] and in college experienced financial insecurity.[7] In college, paying his own tuition was a stretch and he often slept in his car because he could not afford rent.[8] [9]

Both Riccio's parents died of cancer. His mother died in 1997, his father five years later in 2002.[10]

Career

After college, while working as a grocery store stocker, Riccio took a course in real estate in 1990 and embarked in a career in the industry.[11] [12]He is the founder of Riccio Enterprises. He owns 15 building in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.[13] They total 70 living units.

He began his work in Hampton Beach when he had a vision for the depressed area and wanted to rehabilitate it but he had little funding. Getting the down payment for even one property was a stretch at the time.[14] He credits his mother for his vision for Hampton Beach. They took a casual drive to the area, which opened his eyes to the potential of the area.[15]

He has been described as a "local legend" in the area where he grew up because he has invested in poorer areas; he has bought up abandoned homes and renovated them.[16] The police chief of Hampton Beach, William Wrenn, has spoken publicly about Riccio's efforts to improve the community. The area had largely been relegated to cheap vacation rentals by young people who came to party, but Riccio rehabbed the homes to make them attractive to families, which stabilized the area.[17]

He has been described in the press as a "real estate mogul." His estimated net worth is reported to be about $6 million.[18] He owns Riccio Enterprises LLC and its subsidiary, Nautical Beach Properties.[19]

He has indicated that his long-term professional goals include owning a sports franchise.[20]

Personal life

Riccio is a Republican. He is described as an introvert.[21] [22]

In 2022, he met Karoline Leavitt when she was running for Congress in New Hampshire. A mutual friend had invited Riccio to attend an event where Leavitt was speaking and they became friends.[23] [24] Riccio and Leavitt are from a similar area of New Hampshire.[25]

The couple have a 32-year age gap.[26] Leavitt has credited that as a strength in their relationship because Riccio has already had a successful career of his own, so he is fully supportive of her professional ambitions. Riccio and Leavitt got engaged in December 2023.[27] [28]

Leavitt gave birth to their son in July 10, 2024.[29] Three days later, Donald Trump was the victim of an assassination attempt in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Leavitt had planned to be on maternity leave, but opted to return to work right away. Leavitt had praised Riccio as the "best dad" to their son.[30] Riccio has a net worth of about $6 million.[31] His wealth has enabled him to financially support Leavitt's congressional campaign, and to take care of things at home while Leavitt serves the president as the White House press secretary.[32]

The couple married in January 2025, two days before Donald Trump's second inauguration.[33] The wedding was a private ceremony in Rye, New Hampshire at the Wentworth By the Sea Country Club.[34] It was the first marriage for both Riccio and Leavitt.[35]

Leavitt has described her husband as an introvert who stays off social media.[36] [37] He tends to keep a low profile online.[38] Respecting his preference for privacy, Leavitt does not share a lot about their personal life online.[39]
