Neon Noodle is a YouTube animation channel created by Serbian artist Velibor Nikolić. The channel describes its content as “Outsider pop-art videos, and music from a parallel universe,” blending surreal horror, neo-noir and pop-art sensibilities. It has produced hundreds of short animated films, often low-fi in style and labeled as “cursed cartoons” by fans. A recurring character is Mr. Creep, a knife-wielding assassin featured in multiple films including The Moon Rabbit (2024). As of early 2025, the channel had amassed over 350,000 watch hours in just over two years.
In February 2025, Neon Noodle became the first YouTube channel to publish a fully colorized version of the 1928 Disney cartoon Steamboat Willie, shortly after its entry into the public domain.
History
[edit]Neon Noodle was launched in the early 2020s by Velibor Nikolić (born 1983), a Serbian animator and former musician. Nikolić has said he created the project as a fictional alter ego during a personal and health crisis. One of the channel’s earliest known works is A Rabbit from Taured (2023), followed by 2024’s The Moon Rabbit, which introduced the recurring character Mr. Creep. The creator is credited as Neon Noodle on festival listings and film aggregator sites.
Content and style
[edit]Neon Noodle’s videos use intentionally crude or stylized animation, drawing on the visual traditions of outsider art and pop art. Common themes include horror, metaphysics, cursed alternate universes, and satire of popular media. The content often subverts classic cartoon tropes, sometimes featuring inverted or surreal versions of known characters. Music and sound design are integral to many episodes, contributing to the eerie or dreamlike tone.
Reception
[edit]While the channel remains underground, its dedicated viewer base has grown. By 2025 it had surpassed 8.5 million views and 7,000 subscribers. Neon Noodle's colorization of Steamboat Willie in 2025 received attention in online animation communities for its bold reinterpretation. The channel has also drawn notice from festival curators and catalogued databases for its consistent neo-noir, experimental storytelling.
