Draft:Naser Monazzamfar

Naser Monazzamfar (Persian: ناصر منظم‌فر; born 1909, Tehran) was an Iranian memoirist known for his firsthand accounts of service alongside the German army during the Second World War. According to his own account, he moved to Germany with his family at the age of two. At 23, encouraged by a friend named Rishad Krefgen, he joined the Nazi army. After completing various military courses, he reached the rank of lieutenant. At that time, World War II had begun, and Naser was assigned to the 7th Division, 258th Infantry Regiment, on the Russian front.

His wartime recollections, published in Ettela’at Haftegi magazine in 1976 (issue no. 1786), provide one of the rare Persian-language narratives describing the experiences of an Iranian volunteer or auxiliary attached to Nazi Germany’s military forces on the Eastern Front.[1]

Biography

[edit]

Little is known about Monazzamfar’s early life or how he came to join German forces during World War II, apart from his own accounts. His memoirs suggest that he served in or alongside a Wehrmacht unit operating on the Eastern Front during Germany’s retreat against Soviet forces.

Wartime Memoirs

[edit]

Monazzamfar’s notable work, Khaterat-e yek Irani az jebhehaye jang-e Alman va Shoravi (“Memoirs of an Iranian from the German–Soviet Fronts”), appeared in Ettela’at Haftegi on 27 Farvardin 1355 (16 April 1976). The narrative recounts his early life in Germany, his enlistment into the Nazi army, military training, and subsequent deployment. It details a chaotic German retreat under Soviet fire, encounters with wounded officers, and the grim atmosphere aboard Red Cross trains carrying casualties to Berlin during the final stages of the war. Through his recollections, Monazzamfar depicts both the disintegration of the German front and the psychological collapse of its soldiers.

Historical Context

[edit]

Monazzamfar’s account stands out as an unusual example of the involvement of the Iranian Freikorps in the European theatre of World War II. His writing blends personal testimony with reportage, capturing the despair of German forces as the Third Reich neared defeat.
