Nancy Slonim Aronie is an American writer, teacher, artist, and performer. She has published three books on writing: Seven Secrets to Writing the Perfect Personal Essay (2023),[1] Memoir as Medicine (2022),[2] and Writing from the Heart (1999).[3]
In 1990, she founded the Chilmark Writing Workshop on Martha’s Vineyard.[4] She has taught her Writing From the Heart: Finding Your Own Voice workshops on Martha's Vineyard as well as at the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, the Omega Institute, Rowe Conference Center, Esalen Institute, Wainwright House, and the New Center for Holistic Learning in New York City.[5][6]
Aronie writes a bi-weekly column in the Martha's Vineyard Times[7] and has also contributed a monthly column for McCall's Magazine and served as an editor at Lear's.[8] She is also a contributor to National Public Radio’s All Things Considered.[9] In 1997, she was awarded the "Eye of the Beholder" Artist-in-Residence honor at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.[10]
She has been a visiting writer at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut, and taught writing at Harvard University.[11]
As an artist, Aronie's mixed media miniatures, set on lucite, wood, and stone bases, are exhibited at the Granary Gallery on Martha’s Vineyard.[12] The Martha’s Vineyard Times has written that, “Nancy Aronie does everything in her life with heart and soul.”[13]
