The Matriarch is an analog semi-modular synthesizer released by Moog, incorporating circuits based on the Moog modular synthesizer Model 15 and the Minimoog. It is an extended version of the Moog Grandmother.
Specification
[edit]Oscillator
[edit]"The oscillators are based on the Minimoog Voyager" | "Oscillator sync is also onboard and three round red backlit switches select which oscillators have sync applied to them. For modular heads, you also have three CV inputs (pitch, linear FM, PWM) and a wave output per-oscillator"[3]
Filter
[edit]"based on the highly regarded Moog 904A module" | "three switchable modes – Series HP/LP, Stereo LP/LP, and Parallel HP/LP"[3]
Controls
[edit][ARP/Sequence, Mod Wheel/Modulation, Pitch bend, modular]
"But with the Matriarch, the synth’s random mode can order four sequencers with three banks of 256 notes inside them, and four notes per polyphony."[4]
"create keyboard-transposable sequences at any tempo (and with tap tempo) up to 256 steps in length with up to four notes per-step" | "In Rec mode you can also add ratchets per-step (fills and trills) or ties and rests" | "there are no presets of any sort on this machine apart from that you can save up to 12 sequences over three banks, selected with the oct/bank switch"[3]
Inputs and outputs
[edit]Miscellaneous
[edit][Delay, keyboard, weight, size, classic & dark]
"I love how Moog has brought a bright color scheme and design to cover what’s referred to as “the mother of all mothers” and “the pinnacle of Moog’s semi-modular family.”[4]
"designs laid out by The Source, Satellite and Realistic MG-1" | "serve a function, making clear distinctions on the panel between the ‘modules’, and the various inputs and outputs on the rear are also colour-coded"[3]
"[ADSR] from the Moog 911 module" | "Three modes allow versatile control – Amp (both VCAs controlled by the amp EG, leaving the filter to control other choices), Split (one VCA controlled by the Amp EG and one by the Filter EG), and Drone which auto-triggers and decouples the VCAs from the EGs"[3]
