Early life
[edit]Mohammed Rasib was born in September 1939 in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan.[3] He immigrated to the United Kingdom in 1961 and initially settled in Birmingham.[3] In 1963, he moved to Slough, where he became a prominent figure in the local community.[3] In 1964, Rasib became the president of Slough’s Pakistani Welfare Association, focusing on supporting the welfare and integration of the local Pakistani and Kashmiri community.[2]
Political career
[edit]Rasib was first elected to Slough Borough Council in 2006, representing the Chalvey Ward, and continued to serve until his retirement in May 2020.[1]

During his tenure, he was involved in various council committees, including the Health Scrutiny Panel and Licensing and Standards Committees.[1] His mayoral term focused on celebrating Slough’s diversity and promoting community cohesion.[2]

[edit]Throughout his life, Rasib was active in community initiatives, particularly those supporting the Kashmiri and Pakistani communities in Slough.[2] He was recognized for his advocacy of diversity, unity, and social welfare.[3]
Death and legacy
[edit]Mohammed Rasib passed away on 26 April 2025, at the age of 85.[1] His funeral was held on 27 April 2025 at the Diamond Road Mosque in Slough, where thousands of people attended to pay their respects.[4]
Slough Borough Council leader, Councillor Dexter Smith, expressed sorrow at his passing, describing him as "a very gentle person" and highlighting the privilege of working with him on the Health Scrutiny Panel.[1] Tributes were paid to Rasib’s long-standing service to the community, his dedication to public life, and his commitment to social welfare.[2][3]
