Mishuk Moni is a Bangladeshi filmmaker, producer and screenwriter. He made his directorial debut with the feature film Deyaler Desh (2024), which was released during Eid-ul-Fitr and drew critical acclaim, commercial success, and international screenings.[1][2][3] With his debut film, Mishuk emerged as one of the most discussed new Bangladeshi filmmakers.[4][5]
Early life and education
[edit]Mishuk developed an interest in theatre and storytelling during his college years.[2] He later studied film in Canada, where he trained in filmmaking before returning to Bangladesh to pursue directing.[6] Before his film career, he directed television commercials and a drama.[6]
Career
[edit]Mishuk wrote the script for his debut feature film Deyaler Desh between 2016 and 2019, inspired by an encounter at a city morgue.[3] The project received a government grant in 2021 and was filmed in 2022.[1] The film starred Sariful Razz and Shobnom Bubly, alongside an ensemble cast.[7]
Released during Eid-ul-Fitr in 2024, Deyaler Desh stood out among eleven festival releases for its distinct storytelling and cinematography.[2] The film was among the most attended at Star Cineplex.[8] It later premiered internationally in Australia and the United States, with additional releases in Canada, Europe, and Pakistan.[9][10] The film debuted on the OTT platform Chorki in July 2024.[11]
Critics and industry figures praised Mishuk’s debut for blending artistic and commercial sensibilities. Veteran actor Afzal Hossain described it as a “masterpiece” and lauded Mishuk as part of a new generation of impactful storytellers.[12]
Following his debut, Mishuk announced his next film Kalbela, conceived as part of a planned romance trilogy. The film entered pre-production in 2024.[13]
