The Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection and Environment of Saxony-Anhalt (Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Energie, Klimaschutz und Umwelt des Landes Sachsen-Anhalt) is one of the nine ministries of the German state (Bundesland) Saxony-Anhalt. It is based in Magdeburg.

Leadership

[edit]

Armin Willingmann has been state minister since September 16, 2021, and is assisted by Thomas Wünsch and Steffen Eichner as state secretaries.

History

[edit]

After the Second World War, there were initially no ministries. In the "Provincial Administration of Saxony" formed in 1945, a vice president was responsible for agriculture and forestry. In 1946, the Ministry of Agriculture was founded, which was renamed the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry in 1950 and existed as such until the dissolution of the state in 1952.

With the reestablishment of the state of Saxony-Anhalt in 1990, a Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Forestry and a Ministry of Environment and Nature Conservation were founded. In 1994, the Ministry of Environment was initially transformed into the Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, and Regional Planning, and in 1996, both ministries were merged for the first time to form the Ministry of Regional Planning, Agriculture, and Environment. In 1998, the ministry was divided again into the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Forestry and the Ministry of Regional Planning and Environment, but in 2000 it was merged again under its previous name. In 2002, it was renamed the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and in 2016 it became the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, and Energy. In 2021, it was renamed the Ministry of Science, Energy, Climate Protection, and Environment. With the formation of the Haseloff III cabinet, the departmental boundaries were changed considerably in some cases, with the result that the Ministry of the Environment was merged with the science department from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and now bears its current name.
