Matchfy.io
[edit]Matchfy.io is an online platform that connects recording artists and their representatives with music industry professionals—particularly independent playlist curators—primarily for promotion on streaming and social platforms. Founded by brothers Paolo and Nicolò Mantini in Italy, the service matches tracks to relevant playlists and outlets using an algorithmic “match” system sometimes likened to a dating-app-style interface.[1] [2]
Matchfy is based in Brescia, Italy.[3]
History
[edit]The platform originated in 2019 under the name SpotiMatch, developed by Clockbeats S.R.L. It rebranded to Matchfy.io in April 2020 after contact with Spotify regarding branding guidelines.[4]
Early media coverage in July 2020 described Matchfy as a new tool connecting artists with independent Spotify playlist curators, and reported (at that time) “50,000 artists” and “over 2 million submissions.”[1] [5] In November 2023, Forbes Italia profiled the platform and its use of AI to pair artists with curators; that article dates a launch to 2022, reflecting a later stage of the service’s development. [6]
Funding
[edit]In April 2024, Billboard Italia reported that Matchfy closed a €2 million funding round led by the family office of Donato Romano. The piece also summarized the company’s freemium model and AI-driven matching approach.[6] [7]
Partnerships
[edit]In January 2025, industry outlet Rockol (MusicBiz) reported a strategic partnership between Matchfy and EVEN, aimed at maximizing artists’ revenue and visibility.[8]
In May 2025, Rockol covered a partnership with Songstats to provide more detailed analytics to users.[9]
Matchfy has also announced collaborations with Musixmatch (lyrics/metadata tools) and RoEx (audio services), though these were communicated via the company’s blog and social channels. [9]
How it works
[edit]Matchfy’s core service connects:
- On one side, artists (or their representatives) seeking to promote a song or release;
- On the other, music professionals—especially independent playlist curators—and related outlets.
Using a matching algorithm, the platform analyzes track data (leveraging Spotify information) and suggests relevant playlists and contacts. Media coverage has described it as a kind of “Tinder for musicians, promoters and labels” in the way it pairs tracks with suitable curators. In recent years, Matchfy expanded beyond Spotify promotion to include YouTube and TikTok touchpoints. [1] [2]
The service operates on a freemium basis with paid tiers and optional campaign tools (e.g., a “VIP” plan). Editorial control remains with curators, who choose whether to add tracks.
Reception
[edit]Mainstream Italian business and music media have covered Matchfy’s model and growth, including Forbes Italia, Billboard Italia and Rockol.[1] [2] [6] Independent commentators have offered mixed assessments of playlist-pitching platforms generally; for example, a 2024 review by creator Andrew Southworth criticized aspects of Matchfy’s approach and results for artists.
