Mario Joos is a Belgian YouTube retention strategist, consultant, and former professional PUBG esports player, previously known by the in-game alias RaptorDaRaptor. He is the founder of the research consulting firm Brightrock and has worked with prominent creators including MrBeast, the Stokes Twins, and others.[1][2][3]
Early life and esports career
[edit]Mario Joos is from Belgium. His online career started as a Twitch broadcaster, mainly focusing on first-person shooter games. Under the alias RaptorDaRaptor, Joos competed professionally in PUBG for teams including Method and Tiger Mafia.[4] He also won the first $100,000 Twitch Rivals PUBG tournament in 2018, earning prize money with his team.[5] In 2019, he competed with the Stellar Four team at the Ring of Elysium Thailand Invitational, where he received awards for most eliminations and survival time.[6][7] In 2018, he was quoted in a Red Bull feature discussing competitive gaming.[8]
YouTube retention career
[edit]Joos began consulting for content creators in the early 2020s. One of his early successes included helping the YouTuber Kwebbelkop grow a new side channel called Tiger by 400,000 subscribers in three months.[9]
MrBeast
[edit]In 2020, Joos joined the team of Jimmy Donaldson, known as MrBeast, as retention director.[3] In this role, he analyzed audience behavior and advised on video editing and structure to maximize viewer engagement. Joos contributed to several high-profile projects, including the "$456,000 Squid Game in Real Life" video.[3]
Brightrock
[edit]In 2020, Joos founded Brightrock, formerly called Marator Media Group, a research consulting firm focused on the "psychology of attention" in online content.[3] Through Brightrock, he has advised multiple large YouTube channels, including the Stokes Twins, Matthew Beem, and Futcrunch.[3]
Stokes Twins
[edit]In 2025, Joos became the fractional CEO of the Stokes Twins’ YouTube operation.[1] He had been consulting for the twins prior to the appointment, during which time their subscriber count increased by more than 80 million in 2024.[2] As CEO, he has stated goals to improve the channel's brand image and launch new product lines.[2]
Speaking engagements
[edit]Joos has spoken at international industry events including VidCon Anaheim,[10] dmexco,[11] and Webit Festival Europe.[12] In 2025, he was featured in Forbes Bulgaria as part of Aniventure Comic Con, where he spoke on stage alongside Bulgarian YouTuber Slavi Panayotov about content creation.[13]

[edit]In 2023, Joos was featured in a podcast episode titled MrBeast's YouTube Strategist Reveals His Secrets - Mario Joos, listed on IMDb.[14] He has also been interviewed by Bulgarian national broadcaster bTV Media Group, where he discussed his career as a YouTube strategist.[15] In 2024, Joos was profiled by Karat Weekly, where he offered retention advice for content creators.[16]
