Mani Lapussh is a Nigerian singer, rapper, songwriter, dancer and actor known for his energetic style and contributions to the Nigerian music scene. He rose to prominence after winning the Tom Tom “Breathe for It” Verse Challenge in 2021, collaborating with Afrobeat star Rema, and has since established himself as a versatile and innovative performing artist. [edit]Mani Lapussh was raised in Obiagu, Enugu State, Nigeria. He comes from a disciplined family background, with parents who are retired teachers. His upbringing instilled values that continue to influence his artistic journey. Mani describes his music style as the “Akpaka sound,” a unique fusion of rap, Igbo indigenous sounds, and pop elements. He credits musical icons like Bob Marley and Phyno as major influences shaping his sound and artistic vision. Mani Lapussh is also known for being a multitalented performer, actively engaging in singing, rapping, songwriting, dancing, and acting.[2]
Breakthrough: Tom Tom “Breathe for It” Challenge
[edit]In 2021, Mani Lapussh gained national attention after winning the Tom Tom “Breathe for It” Verse Challenge, a competition that drew over 500 entrants across Nigeria. His victory earned him a collaboration with Afrobeat sensation Rema on the single “Breathe Anthem”, a cash prize of ₦1,000,000, and a year’s supply of Tom Tom candy.[3][4]
Following this success, Mani Lapussh was appointed the official Tom Tom Boy ambassador by Cadbury Nigeria in early 2022. In this role, he represents the brand and promotes youth creativity through initiatives such as the Breathe For It Summit.[5][6]
Career developments and label signing
[edit]In 2024, Mani Lapussh was officially unveiled as one of the inaugural signees of Fusion Records, alongside fellow artist King Six. Fusion Records positions Mani Lapussh as a key creative force with a global cultural reach, endorsing his roles as composer, singer, rapper, songwriter, dancer, and actor.[7][8]
Under Fusion Records, Mani Lapussh released Only You in late 2024, a mid-tempo Afrobeats track that highlights his smooth vocal delivery and evolving artistry.[9]
