Early life and education

[edit]

Born in Castelmezzano, Basilicata, Iosco moved to Tuscany as a child and began studying music at age six. He later trained at the Florence Conservatory.[3]

Career

[edit]

Iosco began his career with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma and joined the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid as principal bass clarinetist in 2007 after winning a competition.[4][5] From 2010 to 2015, he was a member of the London Symphony Orchestra, contributing to recordings including the final two *Harry Potter* film soundtracks.[6] Since 2015, he has been with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.[7]

Iosco founded and conducts Ensemble Ubertini and is the music director of Fondazione Accademia Ducale.[8][9] In July 2025, he conducted the foundation's ensemble at the MISA Festival in Shanghai, featuring world premieres of works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Giuseppe D’Amico.[10] He has taught at the Royal Academy of Music and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.[11] He is a Vandoren artist and has performed solo works, including *Elegguá: Fantasy for Bass Clarinet*.[12][13] He has also conducted works by composers such as Dmitri Shostakovich and Giuseppe Verdi.[14][15]

In October 2020, Iosco tested positive for COVID-19, leading to the quarantine of over 100 Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra members.[16]
