Long Island MMA is a mixed martial arts training facility based in Long Island, New York. Founded by professional fighters and coaches, the gym offers comprehensive instruction in disciplines such as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, wrestling, boxing, and strength and conditioning.[1] Recognized as one of the region’s leading MMA academies, Long Island MMA has produced and trained numerous athletes who have competed in major organizations including the UFC, Bellator, and PFL. The gym emphasizes a balance between professional fight preparation and community-based programs for adults, children, and beginners, contributing to the growth and visibility of mixed martial arts on Long Island and within the broader Northeastern combat sports scene.
History
[edit]Long Island MMA was founded in 2010 by professional fighters Ryan LaFlare and Gregg DePasquale. The founders established the gym to create a world-class mixed martial arts facility for athletes living on Long Island who previously needed to travel to larger markets for elite training.
Under their leadership, the gym developed a reputation for its technical instruction and strong wrestling foundation, attracting both aspiring amateurs and established professionals. Over the years, Long Island MMA evolved from a tight-knit fight team into a full-service academy offering programs in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, boxing, wrestling, and youth martial arts.
Several of its athletes—including LaFlare, Bermudez, and others—have gone on to compete in major promotions such as the UFC, Bellator, and the PFL, helping solidify the gym’s reputation as one of the premier MMA training centers in the Northeastern United States.
