Submission declined on 26 August 2025 by Ibjaja055 (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Lizzi Whaley (née Hines) is a New Zealand business executive and interior architecture specialist. Whaley served as a judge on the eighth season of the reality TV renovation series The Block NZ.[1][2][3] She is also the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and owner of Spaceworks Interior Architecture, a commercial design studio based in Auckland.[4]
Early life and education
[edit]Whaley completed a Bachelor of Spatial Design at Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in 2002.[5][6]
Career
[edit]Whaley spent the first 9 years of her career at Aalto Colour, a bespoke paint manufacturer, where she developed an interest in colour and paint schemes.[6]
Whaley joined Spaceworks as a designer in 2004 and purchased the firm two years later, becoming CEO at age 28.[7][8]In 2012, she won the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award.[9][10]
Whaley founded the razor-subscription start-up Shave Union in 2015.[11]
In 2018, Whaley and Focus Construction Interiors were in a High Court dispute over a previously settled agreement, which concluded in 2020.[12] Whaley later said that successfully defending the case was a turning point for the business.[13]
In 2019, Whaley became a judge on season 8 of the New Zealand renovation reality show The Block NZ.[14][1][2]Known for her direct and constructive feedback, she brought a commercial design perspective to the judging panel.[2][14]
In 2021, her firm Spaceworks won the Westpac Supreme Award.[15]
Whaley approached Toitū Envirocare to develop and build a carbon calculator for the New Zealand building industry in collaboration with Spaceworks, which the company launched in 2022.[16] In 2023, the studio introduced an in-house carbon calculator to measure and reduce the embodied emissions of interior projects.[17][18]
Personal life
[edit]In 2021, Whaley shared her personal experience of coming out later in life in NZ Herald’s Viva.[19]
Philanthropy
