Submission declined on 11 April 2025 by Hoary (talk). This submission's references do not show that the subject qualifies for a Wikipedia article—that is, they do not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject (see the guidelines on the notability of people). Before any resubmission, additional references meeting these criteria should be added (see technical help and learn about mistakes to avoid when addressing this issue). If no additional references exist, the subject is not suitable for Wikipedia.

Comment: I quote the template above: Please do not remove reviewer comments or this notice until the submission is accepted. That means what it says. Whether you believe that a comment is obsolete or mistaken, leave it. Hoary (talk) 03:24, 13 April 2025 (UTC)
Comment: One four-times-cited source is what's described as Mayfair Times. This is linked to the 84-page October 2020 issue of a magazine so titled. Please specify the title and page number(s) of the article within it. Quoting DGG (writing in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Lara Julian): "There do not appear to be any substantial critical studies". For the autobio template, see Draft talk:Lara Julian. -- Hoary (talk) 09:26, 11 April 2025 (UTC)
Lara Julian (born 29 July 1981) is a Russian-born abstract artist living and working in London.[1]
Early life
[edit]Lara Julian was born in Novosibirsk, Russia, in 1981.[2] She grew up in a family of creatives: her father was a figurative painter, and her mother worked as an art historian.[3] Immersed in this artistic environment, Julian began painting during childhood.[2] Despite her early interest, she initially pursued a career in banking. While working at MDM Bank in Novosibirsk, she resumed painting in 2009 and began working towards a professional art career.[2]
Professional career
[edit]In 2014, Julian moved to New York and spent a year at the School of Visual Arts before relocating to London to study at the Slade School of Fine Art.[4] In 2023, she held a retrospective exhibition titled Optical Adventures: 10 Years of Painting Colour at Gallery 8 in London.[5]

Work
[edit]Julian is known as a colour technologist, focusing on colour as an autonomous object.[6] Her abstract works explore colour theory, the Munsell colour system, and juxtaposition techniques.[2][7] She demonstrates how variations in colour placement and manipulation of colour properties affect visual perception.[6]
Her materials include acrylic, oil, and watercolour.[8] Her signature style features long, narrow vertical lines, vibrant colour gradients, and tactile textures.[2] Julian also reinterprets classical works by abstracting and isolating their colour schemes, eliminating figuration and focusing solely on palette.[4]
Influences
[edit]Julian cites Patrick Heron, Carlos Cruz-Diez, and Bridget Riley as key influences. She also draws inspiration from music and nature.[4]
