Klippa is a Dutch software company founded in 2015 in Groningen, Netherlands. It develops intelligent document processing (IDP) software that uses optical character recognition (OCR) and machine learning for automating administrative tasks.[1]

The company expanded internationally with offices in the Netherlands, Germany, and Romania, and its software is used in sectors such as finance and logistics.[2]

Klippa has been recognized in business rankings such as the Deloitte Technology Fast 50 and the Groninger Ondernemingsprijs, and was acquired in 2025 by German software firm SER Group.[3]

History

[edit]

Klippa was founded in 2015 in Groningen by a group of IT specialists. It began with a mobile app for digitising and storing receipts, before expanding into enterprise software for broader document automation.[4]

In 2019, the company received €200,000 in funding from the regional investment fund NOM, which was reported as supporting international expansion.[5]

In 2020, Klippa raised €1.2 million from Bizcuit Group, a Dutch fintech company. The investment was covered in European technology press.[6][7]

By 2025, Klippa employed around 80 people and served more than 1,000 customers in 30 countries.[3]

International expansion

[edit]

From its base in Groningen, Klippa opened a second office in Amsterdam and later established a team in Brașov, Romania. By 2019, it had expanded to Germany, France, Spain, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.[5][8] In 2022, it opened an office in Hamburg, Germany.[2]

Awards and recognition

[edit]

Klippa has been included in several business rankings and awards:

  • Ranked in the Deloitte Technology Fast 50: #7 in 2022, #17 in 2023, and #33 in 2024.[9]
  • Winner of the Groninger Ondernemingsprijs in 2022.[10]
  • Nominated for the Koning Willem I Prijs in 2024 in the SME category.[11]

Acquisition

[edit]

In March 2025, Klippa was acquired by the German company SER Group, which specializes in enterprise content management and automation. The acquisition was covered by national and regional media.[3][12][13]
