Katriina Wright (born 4 February 2003) is a track and field athlete who represents Finland.[1]

Early and personal life

Wright was born in San Diego, California, U.S. Her mother, Madrine Gichuki, was raised in Kenya, and her father, Tom Wright, is half-Finnish. She is a dual citizen of Finland and the United States.[2] Wright lived in Clairemont, San Diego and attended University City High School in the United States.[3]

In 2022, she started at the University of Oregon to study psychology, with minors in business and the Swahili.[4][5] Wright has a social media following and sells merchandise with designs which she creates herself.[6]

Career

She was part of a Finnish 4x400m relay team that set a new national U20 record at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Columbia.[7]

In July 2023, she competed in the 400 metres at the 2023 European Athletics U23 Championships held in July 2023, in Espoo, Finland. Wright qualified for the final in which she finished sixth.[8]

She was named in the Finnish team for the 2024 European Athletics Championships in Rome and competed in the 4x400m relay.[9][10]
