Kardinal is a French software company founded in 2015 that develops route optimization tools for the transport and logistics sector.
History
[edit]The company was established in 2015 under the name Citodi, initially operating a delivery service based on algorithmic planning. It later shifted to developing software for logistics professionals.[1]
In 2019, the company changed its name to Kardinal and announced a €2 million funding round led by Serena Capital.[2] In July 2022, it raised €10 million in a Series A round involving Benhamou Global Ventures, CapHorn, Plug and Play Ventures, and Serena Capital, to support expansion in Europe.[3][4]
Technology and products
[edit]Kardinal’s platform provides tools for delivery route planning and optimization. It includes a continuous optimization module (ARO) and a geographic sectorization module (TAO), introduced in 2021.[5][6]
The software combines operations research and machine learning methods. It is used to adapt delivery planning in real time, particularly in last-mile contexts.[7] Kardinal’s solutions can integrate with other logistics systems via APIs, and have been deployed in partnerships with companies such as Escher Group,[8] and Open Pricer.[9]
Awards and recognition
[edit]In 2015, as Citodi, the company received the Adetem Start-up Grand Prix and an award from the crowdfunding platform Anaxago.[10] In 2016, it was labeled GreenTech by the French Ministry of Ecology.[11]
In 2021, Kardinal was included in the "Companies committed to the ecological transition" program under the France Relance plan, managed by ADEME.[12] In 2024, it was recognized at the SITL trade show in the Technologies, IoT and Information Systems category for its ODA (Dynamic Delivery Slot Optimization) solution.[13] In 2025, Gartner identified Kardinal as a "Representative Vendor" in its Market Guide for Vehicle Routing & Scheduling.[14]
