Kaak el Abbas or Kaak al Abbas (Arabic: كعك العباس [kaʕk el ʕabˈbaːs]), is a large circular biscuit which originated within the Shia Lebanese community.[1] It is a local and religious pastry specialty mainly distributed and eaten during Ashoura in commemoration of Abbas ibn Ali, brother of Imam Husayn ibn Ali.[2] The main ingredients of Kaak el Abbas are flour, butter, sugar, anise, and a variety of other spices. [3] While traditionally baked at home, it is now produced by local bakeries.
