Josephine Florens (born Vlada Klymenko, 22 September 1988) is a Ukrainian painter and contemporary artist based in Germany. She works primarily in oil on canvas, combining classical painting traditions with contemporary themes of memory, spirituality, and exile.[1]

Biography

Josephine Florens was born in Odesa, Ukraine. She originally studied law, receiving master’s degrees in Civil and International Law, before turning to painting. She trained at the Art-Ra School of Fine Arts in Odesa and began exhibiting her works in 2017. Following the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, she relocated to Germany, where she continues her career as a painter.[2]

Career

Florens’s work has been exhibited in museums, art centers, and international competitions. In 2021, her paintings were included in the exhibition Cycle Art at the Odessa Museum of Western and Eastern Art.[3]

In 2025, she participated in The Light from the Other Shore – New York International Art Competition at the Whitelock Art Center (New York, USA), where she received the Bronze Award.[4] The exhibition was covered by international platforms including Juliet Art Magazine[5], ArtRabbit[6], and Artsteps.[7]

She has also been recognized as a finalist in several international art competitions, including the 10th FLOWER International Art Competition organized by Teravarna (USA, 2025)[8] and the Open Art Exhibition by Art Room Gallery (USA, 2025).[9]

Her work was also featured in the Times Square Billboard Showcase in New York City, organized by Visual Art Journal.[10]
