Jason F. Brown is an American film and television producer and co-founder of Hivemind, a production company behind genre properties like The Witcher and The Expanse. He currently serves as President of Hivemind.[1]
Early Life and Education
Jason Brown was born to nomadic parents and raised across Europe, Asia, and the United States, experiences that shaped his global storytelling interests. He later studied Film and Television at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Career
Early Career
Brown began as a video game journalist for GameSpot[2] and Computer Gaming World[3]. He entered film by working under established producers Scott Rudin, Dan Jinks, and Bruce Cohen, and later with Sean Daniel.
He started producing as an assistant on The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) and The Wolfman (2010), and advanced to Head of Development and then to partner at the Sean Daniel Company. There, he developed projects including Agent 13 with Charlize Theron[4], the video game adaptation Dead Island[5], and Archer & Armstrong for Valiant Comics.[6]
Founding Hivemind
In 2018, Brown co-founded Hivemind with Sean Daniel and Kathy Lingg. Hivemind launched with a first-look deal at Amazon Studios and secured a subsequent two-year agreement with Netflix.[7]
At Hivemind, Brown has executive produced projects including:
- The Expanse, which ran six seasons across Syfy and Amazon Prime; Business Insider covered its revival after support from George R.R. Martin.[8]
- Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, which grossed over $100M worldwide.[9]
- The Witcher, whose debut on Netflix reached over 76 million households.[10]
Hivemind has also been named co-producer on development projects like a live-action Final Fantasy XIV adaptation[11] and an EC Comics partnership.[12]
