Jackson Mead (born 30 September 2001) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Mead is the son of former Port Adelaide defender Darren Mead, and was drafted to the club under the AFL's Father–son rule in 2019.[1]
Early life and junior football
[edit]Mead grew up in Adelaide, South Australia, and played his junior football for SMOSH West Lakes before moving into the Woodville-West Torrens SANFL program.[2]
He starred in the 2018 Torrens University Cup Grand Final as a bottom-ager, kicking four goals and winning the Alan Stewart Medal for best on ground.[2] In 2019 he represented South Australia at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships and was named in the Under-18 All-Australian team.[3]
AFL career
[edit]Port Adelaide selected Mead with pick 25 in the 2019 AFL draft, using their Father–Son priority.[2] He made his AFL debut in Round 1, 2022.[1]
After limited opportunities in his first two seasons (11 games in 2022 and seven in 2023), Mead established himself as a regular senior player in 2024, appearing in all 26 games for the Power. He averaged around 15 disposals, three marks and three tackles per game, and contributed three goals for the season.[4]
In 2025 he continued as part of Port Adelaide’s midfield rotation, adding 20 games and three goals, averaging just over 13 disposals per match.[5]
In September 2024 he signed a two-year contract extension, keeping him at the club until at least the end of 2026.[6]
Playing style
[edit]Mead is a midfielder/forward noted for his contested ball winning, decision making, and ability to impact games without high disposal numbers.[7]
