Hunud Abia Kadouf (born January 1944) is a Sudanese legal scholar, academic administrator, and former judge. He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the International University of Africa in November 2020 and was still in post in January 2022.[1][2] He previously served as Dean of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws at the International Islamic University Malaysia.[3] In November 2021, news outlets reported he was under consideration for Prime Minister of Sudan, which he declined.[4][5]

Early life and education

Kadouf was born in the Salara District of the Nuba Mountains in South Kordofan in 1944. He graduated with first-class honours in law from the University of Khartoum and later earned an MA and a PhD in law from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in 1981. His doctoral thesis was titled The Nyimang Law of Property.[1][6]

Kadouf served as Dean of the Ahmad Ibrahim Kulliyyah of Laws at the International Islamic University Malaysia. He has held editorial roles including Editor-in-Chief of the IIUM Law Journal and Associate Editor of the Journal of Public Security and Safety. In Sudan, he worked as a judge on the Court of Appeal and contributed to the design of the national bar examination.[1] He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of the International University of Africa in November 2020.[1]

2021 prime-ministerial consideration

During the political crisis of November 2021, media outlets reported that Kadouf was being considered for the office of Prime Minister, with subsequent reporting indicating he declined.[7][5]

Conference participation and engagements

Professor Kadouf has been regularly invited as a speaker, panelist, or session chair at international academic and policy forums. He chaired a session on "Contextualizing socio-legal problems of Sudanese students in Malaysia" at a London conference on the diaspora's role in sustainable development organised by the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD).[8] He has also been listed as a keynote speaker, presenter, and organiser at various sustainability, diaspora and MENA conferences, including events held in London and Morocco in 2022.[9] Earlier in his career, he contributed to a judicial conference in Khartoum in 1984 that explored developments in Islamic law.[10]

Kadouf has served on regional higher-education bodies, including the governing board of the Association of African Universities.[11]
