The Hungarian Humanists' Party (Humanist) (Hungarian: Magyar Humanisták Pártja) is a hungarian political party and it was founded in 2025. Two progressive politicans Katalin Cseh Richárd Barabás published a video on social media about the party and hungarian people weren't happy about it.[1][2] The party says about itself that it represents progressive és humanist values, and its' goal is to bring "more humanity and rationality" into hungarian politics.[3]
History
[edit]Richárd Barabás was one of the vice presidents of Dialogue party, while Katalin Cseh was one of the most known politicans of the Momentum Movement. In November 2025 they published on social medias that they will make a new political organization called Humanists, and they will run on the 2026 Hungarian parliamentary election.[3] After the announcment the presidency of the momentum Momentum banned Katalin Cseh from the party,[4] and asked her to resign from her mandate, claiming that joining the Humanists is incompatible with the Momentum's position.[5]
The party claims that hungarian politics are permeated by the divise narratives, while „there's too much testosterone and too little humanity”. Because of this they want to build a political community that focuses on rationality, fairness and solidarity. They say the party representing "free, european, urban and progressive" values, and simultaneously undertakes the protection of human dignity and the cause of social justice.[6]
Péter Magyar criticized the new party, saying that it serves to divide the anti-government votes in 2026. Gergely Karácsony (mayor of Budapest) said that he won't participate in organizing the new party but he will be in a good personal relationship with the founders.[7]
Barabás and Cseh gave their first interview in the color of the party Partizán on 14 November where they to protect their party's right to exist against those suggestions that thought the new party is just trying to further divide the opposition votes. Cseh said that she won't resign from her seat in the parliament.
