Hatem Raslan (Arabic: حاتم رسلان) is an Egyptian businessman and diplomat. He serves as an Ambassador-at-Large for the Republic of The Gambia, engaging in diplomatic missions to strengthen relations between The Gambia and the Arab world, particularly Egypt. He is also the Chairman of the Raslan Group, a conglomerate with investments in agriculture, mining, and trade across West Africa.[1]

Career

Raslan began his professional career in the import and export sector, establishing companies such as General Overseas, Egyex Mauritania, and HSR in Senegal and Guinea-Bissau. In 2018, he founded United Brothers for Engineering Industries, serving as its Chairman. The company operates in the manufacturing and export sectors.

In addition to his business ventures, Raslan holds diplomatic positions representing The Gambia. He was appointed as a Commercial Counselor at the Gambian Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and later designated as a Goodwill Ambassador. Subsequently, he was appointed as an Ambassador-at-Large to Egypt.[2]

In his capacity as Ambassador-at-Large, Raslan has been involved in initiatives aimed at enhancing economic cooperation between Egypt and West African nations. As Chairman of the International Trade Committee for the Egyptian-African Businessmen's Association (EABA), he has facilitated meetings between Gambian officials and Egyptian investors to explore opportunities in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and pharmaceuticals.[3]

In September 2023, Raslan was part of the Gambian delegation participating in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.[4] He was also selected as a member of the organizing committee for the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit hosted in The Gambia.[5]
