Ganpati Kalal
Ganpati Kalal (1920 – 1944) was an Indian independence activist from Maharashtra. He participated in the Quit India Movement of 1942 in the Nagpur region and was later declared an absconder by the British authorities.[1][2]
Early life
[edit]Ganpati Kalal/Kalar was born in 1920 in Umared village, Nagpur District, Maharashtra.[1] He came from a modest family background and worked as a private employee before joining the national movement.[2]
Role in the Quit India Movement
[edit]During the Quit India Movement launched by Mahatma Gandhi in August 1942, Kalal took part in protests and underground activities in the Nagpur region.[1] His involvement brought him under the notice of the colonial authorities, and he was declared an absconder. He remained underground for nearly two years while continuing his participation in the movement.[2]
Death
[edit]In 1944, while evading arrest, Kalal died during his underground activities.[1] His role has been recorded among the martyrs of India’s independence struggle.[2]
