G123 is a browser-based gaming platform operated by CTW Inc., a Tokyo-based video game company.[1] The platform hosts more than 30 officially licensed games based on Japanese anime properties and allows users to access and play them directly in a web browser without registration or installation.[2]

The service was initially introduced in 2017 as a portal providing reviews and information on HTML5 games,[3] and in 2018 it was relaunched to distribute in-house and licensed browser games.[4] According to CTW, the platform expanded significantly and by 2024 had surpassed 500 million cumulative registered users.[5]

G123 provides free-to-play HTML5-based browser games with optional in-game purchases. All titles can be played directly in desktop and mobile web browsers without installation. The platform is available in Japanese, English, Korean and Traditional Chinese, targeting both domestic and overseas audiences.[6]

The platform distributes browser games developed by CTW Inc. and its partners through its HTML5-based service G123.jp.[7][8]

The catalog primarily consists of games licensed from Japanese anime and manga properties, and has been supported by cloud infrastructure such as Alibaba Cloud to handle large-scale traffic.[5]

The platform’s advertising has received occasional criticism for the use of provocative imagery,[9] including a 2025 ruling by the United Kingdom’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) against several anime-style ads.[10]

G123 is one of several browser game platforms, alongside services such as CrazyGames and the now-defunct Yahoo! Games.

History

  • 2017: G123 launched as a browser game guide portal.[3]
  • 2018: Relaunched focusing on distribution of HTML5-based browser games developed by CTW. [4]
  • 2019: According to CTW, the platform had surpassed 10 million registered users.[11]
  • 2020: CTW stated that the platform had surpassed 50 million registered users.[5]
  • 2021: In a press release, 'Seirei Gensouki: Spirit Chronicles Another Tale' became the first title on the G123 platform to be released globally, with English, Korean, and Traditional Chinese versions marking the platform’s initial multilingual expansion. [6]
  • 2024: In its press release, CTW announced that the platform had surpassed 500 million cumulative users.[12] [13]
  • 2025: CTW announced the upcoming release of browser games based on internationally recognized Japanese anime series, including Doraemon and The Apothecary Diaries, with pre-registration for the latter launched on the G123 platform.[14]
