Franky Johnson (sometimes credited as Frank Victor Johnson) is a Filipino–American professional basketball player. He played in Philippine 3x3 competitions and the PBA developmental teams before joining the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and later signing as a heritage player for Pacific Caesar Surabaya in the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL).[8]
Early life and college
[edit]Franky Johnson was born in Vallejo, California, and attended Angelo Rodriguez High School in Fairfield, California.[9] He played college basketball in the United States at NCAA Division 2 Virginia Union University and later transferred to Warner Pacific University in Portland, Oregon. [10]
3x3 career
[edit]Johnson first gained prominence in the Philippines as a standout in Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3. He was a key performer for teams such as Phenom Basilan and Pasig Chooks, hitting several game-winning shots in high-profile events. In July 2019 he hit a game-winning fadeaway that secured a P1,000,000 prize for Basilan in a Chooks-to-Go Patriots Cup leg. [11]
In September 2019 Johnson won the Two-Point Shootout at the FIBA 3x3 Sukhbaatar Challenger in Mongolia, becoming the first Filipino to win the contest at that level. [12]
PBA career
[edit]Johnson entered the PBA draft process and later signed with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters in March 2021. [13] He was later traded to the Meralco Bolts in December 2021. [14] https://iblindonesia.com/profile/player/2384236
Asian Tournament / TAT
[edit]Johnson played for the Zamboanga Valientes during The Asian Tournament (TAT), scoring 36 points in a key game and helping the team win the championship against the Macau Black Bears. He also played alongside NBA veteran Demarcus Cousins [15][16]
IBL Indonesia
[edit]In 2025 Johnson signed with Pacific Caesar Surabaya as a heritage player for the IBL GoPay 2025 season. He averaged 16 points per game, 4 assists per game, 3 rebounds per game, and 1.1 steals per game while shooting 49% from 2PT, 33% from 3PT, and 80% from the free throw line during the season. [17]

Personal life
[edit]Johnson is of Filipino heritage through his mother while his father is African American. Johnson spent time in both the United States and the Philippines during his pro basketball career. [19]
