The first National Football League (NFL) regular-season game streamed for free on YouTube took place on September 5, 2025, in São Paulo, Brazil. The game featured the Los Angeles Chargers defeating the Kansas City Chiefs at Arena Corinthians 27–21.[1]
Promotions
[edit]
The game was the first NFL game to be globally free, as it was streaming on YouTube.[2] Many YouTubers , including IShowSpeed, promoted the game and livestreamed themselves watching it while adding commentary.[3] On September 3, 2025, the NFL dropped a promo for the Chargers-Chiefs game featuring MrBeast titled I Bought the NFL.[4] In this video, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced that Jimmy Donaldson, "MrBeast" bought the NFL.[5] MrBeast said that he'll change the 53-man roster to a 54-man roster and give the extra spot to a YouTuber.[6] The video received widespread attention, with viewers discussing whether MrBeast had purchased the NFL.[7] It was later disclosed that he did not, and it was a collaboration between MrBeast and the NFL to promote the São Paulo, Brazil game and the first NFL game streamed on YouTube.[8]
Global reach
[edit]There were a total of 47,627 fans who attended the game in São Paulo, Brazil. According to YouTube, the game drew a global average audience of 17.3 million viewers, with 16.2 million viewers in the U.S. alone and an additional 1.1 million viewers from other countries.[9]
Halftime show
[edit]
The Halftime show was performed by Colombian Pop singer Karol G.[10] She performed a medley that included her Billboard Hot Latin Songs No. 1 hit Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido, Un Gatito Me Llamó, and Papasito, performing parts of each in both English and Spanish.[11] Karol was dressed in a brown and yellow miniskirt with a pineapple bra.[12]
